Carolina's actually not too bad of a place to land when you really think about it.

They've got a good left tackle in Jordan Gross, and potentially good right tackle in Jeff Otah. They've got a great running attack with Stewart and Williams, though Williams is a FA. There's a #1 receiver in Steve Smith.

The defense never recovered from losing Peppers, but they're still a middle-of-the-pack D. The biggest problem on this team apart from injuries was poor QB play, as Matt Moore wasn't the answer and Jimmy Clausen doesn't look promising either. With decent QB play, this team would look a lot better.

I think Andrew Luck is more concerned about the CBA and when it's implemented and what it looks like in terms of rookie contracts. I think everyone anticipates the top draft pick salaries will be sacrificed to make more money for vets and make owners happy, so if they wait a season before implementing the rookie salary cap, Luck probably makes an extra $40-60 million declaring early. And there are worse things to do in life than live in Carolina for that kind of dough

His Dad (Former college QB, and current UWV AD) was on BSPN last night at the bowl game, and he flat out said that they will wait until after the bowl game, but the NFL labor situation is a concern....or in other words, if not for the labor situation, hell yeah he would come out.

He is the consensus #1 pick of this years draft, as long as no rookie salary cap goes into place, he will make probably 40-60 million regardless of a rookie pay scale.

last year jake locker decided to go back and he lost himself alot of money, it just isnt worth it to go back to school when one year in the nfl will make you more money than any job you are hoping to get from your college education.

when your stock is this high and couldent possibly go and high you have to leave. and keep in mind that it doesnt make sense to try to dodge the panthers because next year it might be a different team but they will be just as horrible.

i think he goes to the NFL and becomes the #1 pick.

Regardless of how Stanford does in the bowl game, I think he should stay in school. He is only a red shirt sophomore, he does NOT need to be facing NFL defenses yet. Another year or two of college reps will not hurt him.

However keep in mind also that Jim Harbaugh is a very hot coaching commodity and might leave this off season. (If Harbaugh stays as a college coach, Michigan needs to hire him badly. If he goes pro San Fran is a great opoportunity.)

The conspiracist in me thinks there's a Stanford reunion brewing in Denver with Elway, Harbaugh and Luck. It sounds like Elway to the front office could be official any day. I could see a trade of Tebow and Denver's first overall (which could be #2) to Carolina for the rights to Luck.

I understand his concern about the CBA. What happens to his $40-$60 million if there's a lockout? Is he still getting paid? He certainly won't be playing anywhere, regardless.

OTOH, if Harbaugh is going to bolt after this season (can he?), maybe it's better for him to get out now.

If there's no lockout, though, I don't see that concerns about the state of the Panthers should dissuade him - although there are many.

Comparing Carolina to last year's St. Louis or the previous season's Detroit, it actually compares quite favourably. You could argue Luck would land in a better situation than Sam Bradford or Matthew Stafford did.

Carolina has a good D and some pieces on offense. Last high profile QB that delayed was Matt Leinart, who was projected to be the number 1 pick, and look how that turned out.

I do not think that staying in school caused Leinhart to bomb, I think his pop gun arm and questionable work habits caused him to flame out.

No reason to stay in school as far as I can see. Take the money and run. Carolina's a good situation to go into. They'll have a new coach, though.

.... I would play hard to get, yet in the end, decide to enter into the NFL Draft.

Look at Jake Locker, last years consensus #1 pick. He goes back to Washington to hone his skills and win some games, and now looks to be drop a round in the NFL Draft. He may be a better quarterback after another year in the NCAA, but he isn't guaranteed as much now, in the ways of a rookie contract, as he was last year.

Matt Leinart wanted to return to USC and how is he doing in the NFL? He can't seem to beat out either Derek Anderson or John Skelton. Did he "hone" his skills so as to be a better NFL quarterback? If he did, it doesn't show on Sunday... and in practice either from what I can tell. The think with Leinart, IMO, is that he doesn't like football. He lacks the competitive drive to be an NFL QB... the drive that Manning and Brady show on Sunday... the drive that inspires his teammates. If Luck stays in Palo Alto, does that send up a red flag that he lacks the desire to compete in the NFL and (rather) be a god among the boys of the PAC 10?

Drew Henson decided to play baseball rather than take his chances in the NFL... which I also believed to be a red flag as lacking a desire to compete in the NFL. The burden and the risk of failure weighed heavy on him, which is my opinion.

It isn't like Luck should be avoiding the Carolina Panthers as a likely home UNLESS he would rather avoid the dramatic storylines of Jimmy Clausen being pushed out under the new regime. Fact of that matter is, Clausen has to go if the Panthers take Luck!

Two ways of looking at it.

1.) Wouldn't it be better for Luck if Clausen starts the first 8 to 10 games, loses them all and then Luck starts the remainder of the season and gets the benefit of time to learn and then limited experience.

2.) Will the competition with Clausen ****** Luck's development because practice time will be split and Luck will not get a vast majority of the snaps?

And what happens to Luck and the rest of the rookies if there is no play next season. Bottom line is Luck should stay in school next year. Anything he loses on his rookie contract can be made up after he becomes a star on later contracts.

I'd go to Carolina if I were him. I'd hint at taking Harbaugh with him.{if he feels comfortable with that} He is an awesome talent who will struggle early, but I do agree with the pundits that he is the best QB prospect since Manning. The money and the prestige is just too much to pass up. Ideally he would do well with San Francisco but we know that's not happening unless they give up a kings ransom.

With their 2nd round pick 33 they can get another guard or defensve player to help.......oh wait......no they can't

Atleast they will be top 5 come the following draft.

You are making a huge assumption that the Panthers aren't committed to Clausen. Honestly, they have other issues they need to address before spending a high round pick on a QB..
