Channing Crowder: MVP should be Vick, will be Brady | ProFootballTalk

“Everybody knows it should be Michael Vick, but they’re going to let Brady win it because it’s Tom Brady,” Crowder told FanHouse. “You’ve got to go with Vick. Vick’s my dude.”

Now I don't think Brady cares about the MVP, why insult him the week of the game? Didn't he see what happened to Ryan Clark when he got in Brady's grill the week before the game?

Pats score 35+ Brady sits out the 4th qtr.

I don't know much about Crowder or his role as a dolphins LB. But I hope he's responsible for covering Gronk. And I hope Brady smokes him for 3 TDs.

I don't think BB is going to want to play his starters for 3 quarters because of that.

It's not worth it.

I see them playing a quarter or until halftime.

But I'll be rooting for BJGE to reach 1,000 yards.

He deserves it.

People keep saying that BB never rests his starters....usually he doesn't but don't forget that in '05 when week 17 came around the Pats were already locked into the 4th (3rd?) seed. Cassel played pretty much the whole game, the Pats lost. People say that nobody ever wins the SB when they rest starters.....the Pats won the next week in the Wild Card round and then lost at Denver in the divisional round. So, did Brady resting affect them in the divisional round but not a week earlier in the Wild Card round??? I'm not saying that BB should rest starters, I'm just pointing out that resting doesn't lose you a game.

I'm not sure what to think of the "resting starters vs. playing them" argument, but we're talking about two different situations. The bye week might make a difference here.

2007: Patriots clinch #1 seed, instead of resting they play out rest of season.
Result: Lose in SB

2009: Colts clinch #1 seed, instead of playing out rest of season they rest.
Result: Lose in SB

In conclusion, neither approach is proven to be "right".

Every time I read this nobody's opinion I keep thinking this...

A pity this game isn't in Miami............

in 07 we were going for perfection, game should not be used as an example, it portrays an anomaly

at least he's a football player saying it...what about all the media folk who are saying the same thing? at least they're actually supposed to be smart for their careers

In '05 the Pats could have played their starters all game and clinched the #3 seed and a date with the Steelers in the wildcard round. Instead they took the foot off the gas pedal, settled for a 4th seed, and faced the Jaguars instead.

One thug wants another thug to win MVP? Shocking. I can guarantee the reason why Crowder wants Vick to be MVP is not because of stats.

Does Channing intend to actually stick with his receivers instead of giving up on covering them? I'll never forget when I saw him jogging casually behind Tony Gonzalez in last season's opener as Gonzalez was wide open in the end zone for a TD. On top of that, he reminds me of a frog...

There really isn't an easy answer to it, but I think looking at one individual game isn't really a sufficient sample size either.

They did go 1-1 that year, beating an awful Jacksonville team before losing to Denver. But Brady wasn't very accurate even in the Jacksonville game, completing only 56% of his passes. But in his 7 play-off seasons, he's played the majority of that last game 6 times, and they've gone 13-3.

The Colts meanwhile routinely rest Manning. In 8 post-season appearances, Manning has played the majority if the last game 3 times, and rested most of the time 5 times. In those 3 times, he went 6-2 in the play-offs and won his only Super Bowl. In the other 5 times, he went 3-5, including losing his first play-off game 3 times.

So I lean towards playing. But I understand the argument for sitting too. But can't just look at one individual game.

LOL. Who? Notice that the first 4 letters of his last name are CROW - as in he will be eating CROW after the Pats stomp the dolphins yet again and they get to watch the postseason from the comforts of their own homes. :)

Anyways nobody cares what this nobody Crowder thinks. When his team actually wins something he'll have earned the right to speak. Right now he's a nobody whose opinion isn't worth spit.

I'm really tired of Crowder always yapping. Lots of talk, no action. He should just sign with the Jets the first chance he gets. He'd fit right in.

The point still stands though in the whole 'momentum vs rest' debate, we had 'momentum' going into the playoffs by winning that last game instead of resting guys. Can add 2006 to that list too IIRC, division was sewn up and no shot at a bye but I'm pretty sure the starters played week 17 (given that Harrison was injured in that game and we won handily). I agree with the sentiment that neither approach is truly proven to hurt or help. People use the Colts as an example of why rest isn't good, but IMO their playoff failures are more due to them just not being a team built for the playoffs, and Peyton's infamous postseason shortcoming.

As for this Sunday I think the regulars that are healthy will play. The most comparable situation to the current one was 2004 when we had a bye locked up and no shot at the #1 seed, so like this year that week 17 was a meaningless game and the next week to rest anyways. BB played the starters into the 4th quarter and brought the backups in with a double digit lead.

Manning is a choke artist, absolutely :singing:

But I think a big part of it too is that the Colts have a very precise offense. It isn't based on trickery so much as execution and timing, and I think it suffers when they take a week or two off, which explains all of the 1 and dones.

Wasn't that the game where it is pretty much accepted that BB was intentionally throwing the game to get a more favorable matchup in the playoffs?
