Mods, if this should be merged or moved elsewhere go right ahead. I didn't see another thread where this fit in but I thought it was a good enough article that it was worth mentioning and linking. It's from Mary Paoletti at CSNNE who doesn't write very many columns, but those that she does write are generally very good. It includes an interesting analogy from Bill Belichick between Warren and Roman Phifer.

Warren and Patriots: A perfect fit

Ask fans who the I-beams of the Patriots are right now and the answers will be predictable: Tom Brady, Jerod Mayo, Vince Wilfork, Wes Welker. Maybe even rookie corner Devin McCourty.

But ask the team about Gerard Warren.

The praise he gets from the guys who know him best speaks volumes. They'll tell you that the defensive lineman is invaluable to the 12-2 Patriots.

"He's brought a lot of experience,'' Bill Belichick said on Wednesday. "He's a smart guy and a versatile player. He can play inside and outside. He can play it on the nose, both ends. He's a smart guy. He sees things. Very professional. Ready to work every day. Tough. He's banged up like a lot of guys are but he stays out there and fights through it. He's been a very dependable player for us.''

Good piece. The guy had some bad press coming in here and it seems that it was either unfounded or he just busted his butt to conform.

Jeez, I hope they don't move it it's one of the best on the front page IMO. Saying that because his contribution isn't as flashy as McCourty or others, so recognition is overdue.

Gonna save the article for after lunch, hope it's good.:D

Him freeing up Wilfork has been great for the team, another good D lineman in a long line of them for BB. Hopefully next year Ty is healthy and we draft one more beast DL in the draft, we will be very good up front.

It's hard to believe that a few months ago he was fighting for his job with Damione Lewis

Sat behind Pats D bench at the Jets 45-3 game. Watched Warren specifically to check him out. In my opinion it's apparent that this guy LOVES playing for the Patriots. Jacked and pumped. Who'd a thunk it? Not I!

Which is why we have others around here to do the thinking for us. :D

Seymore recommended he look into the Patriots.....hmmmmm....it seems that even the guys that are "disrespected" in some form or another, still understand how special playing for this franchise is at this time.

I seem to remember an argument about how bad the Patriot's treat players and that it would have an impact on free agents wanting to come here....guess this puts an end to that speculation....at least for now.

I think Warren will be here for a while.

Football journey: Gerard Warren - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

This interview by Reiss makes it clear that he's a player who loves the game. It's wonderful how much he loves the Patriots but doesn't disrespect his other teams. Easy guy to root for.

Gerard Warren coming to the Pats was one of the quietest BIG moves of the off season and it has truly paid dividends. Back before I knew what a "draft binkie" was, I had an eye on this guy. I like what he did in Denver under Mike Shanahan and I thought the Raiders were smart to bring him in.

Sadly, I didn't think he would last in NE. I figured he would be another one of those vets that came in and failed to find a role on the team (a la Tory Holt as of late). Losing Ty Warren was a significant loss, but Gerard has been a hero.

Hope he is able to remain a Patriots for the next couple years....

2 Warrens and a Wilfork sound like a good defensive line to me!

It would have been interesting if Holt stayed healthy. With that said, with the development of Gronk and Hernandez, not sure he would have played much.

Unsung hero of the team IMO.

Warren noted that he was very interested in NE due to discussions he had with Seymour, as opposed to Sey suggesting the Pats to him. Apparently Sey's descriptions of the NE locker room and organization portrayed the winning football focus that has become the culture of this organization and Warren knew where he wanted to take his business. :rocker:

Wow. Is that the same malcontent bust i read about? lol

The very same.

If I'd read a story about how he'd kicked around dysfunctional franchises and only now, at the end of his career, was with a well-run organization, or one about how he hadn't dedicated himself to football until he saw how little time he had left, I'd have understood.

But no. He truly appreciates the journey. Good guy!

Not a single bad mouth about former teams either, extremely positive. Unless BB's talking and he's only moving his lips, I'm very impressed.:D

I'd like Seymour to comer home too. He is a franchiesed player now. and a UFA in the off season. Just what we need to finish the interior rush; and help train the lengthy list of young DLs here

Warren has been a very key contributer this year and worthy of a thread to commend him.

Warren, Wilfork, Warren would be OK by me next year with guys like Pryor and Wright as depth you could almost ignore the position for a year.

I wonder a little about Ty Warren. He'll be 30 next TC and have two years left on his deal. Might be dealt if the team doesn't think they can sign him or see his injuries as an issue. I say that b/c Brace has proven that he can play and the team has a contingency in place, the thought will cross BB's mind.
