Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

I'm pretty sure Brady isn't getting caught up in this but I will tell you that enough fans or commentators have truly appreciated what Brady did in Chicago last week. **** leBeau hit the nail on the head.

Brady's performance was unbelievable.

Rhoden's argument that Vick is multidimensional is easy to refute in one sense.
Which would be easier to replicate, Vick's performance against the Giants or Brady's performance against the Bears? I'm not talking about Vick or Brady replicating their performances, but in general, which had a greater degree of difficulty? A guy like Vince Young or heck, maybe Cam Newton could do what Vick did (though Vick has been more consistent this year than Young ever will be) but how many QBs could replicate what Brady did? I'm struggling here. Maybe Peyton Manning, maybe Brees, maybe Favre but that's it.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

My picks for Players of year:

MVP - Brady
Offensive - Vick
Defensive - Mayo, Matthews or Wake
Offensive Rookie - Bradford
Defensive Rookie - McCourty or Suh
Comeback - Welker
Coach - Belichick

I think Vick is the comeback player of the year (although, I am not sure the award has ever been given for non-injury related absence).

Welker is back to where he was (almost) but Vick has exceeded where he was by a long shot. Also, fair or not fair, Welker played 16 games last year. So you don't see the bump in stats.

Both players have interesting cases though.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

The only reason there's a debate at all is because of Vick's return from exile. Numbers-wise, it isn't close. Brady's better in every category except for exciting finishes after sucking for most of the game. And the defenses they've done it against can't even really be compared.

As much as there's a bias to puff up Manning's accomplishments, there's a bias that takes Brady's greatness for granted.

And please, please, stop with the "I don't want Brady to win MVP because I'd rather he won SB MVP" nonsense. Guys have done both. It just sounds silly.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Before anyone clicks on that NY TImes link, please know the column is by William C. Rhoden - - the fraud who wrote the day of the Jets-Pats game about how that night would mark the end of the Pats and the "Ascendancy" of the Jets. This fraud then took down over 50% of the column and quickly edited it just after the game.

Caveat emptor to anyone thinking about giving that guy the web clicks.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

I hope vick wins it. MVP is just a distraction. The only real goal should be super bowl victory.

I don't get this argument. Of course Brady isn't focused on winning the season MVP, and if he gets it, he isn't going to suddenly stop playing. It's not a case of one or the other. Someone can have both.

I think Vick is the comeback player of the year (although, I am not sure the award has ever been given for non-injury related absence).

Vick should not get this award. He played last year, but he was invisible because he didn't do much (which is why I guess people don't realize that he's not eligible for this award). Welker didn't really miss much time because of his injury. I think Urlacher has the best chance in the voting for this award.

They went back to the "log in" thing anyway, and I refuse to set up an account there.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Unfortunately, I had clicked on the link before knowing who wrote it, so I had this up on my comptuter anyhow.

I see it's another fraudulent column:

"If N.F.L. rules can protect less mobile quarterbacks, then those quarterbacks who run and get injured should not be ruled out of consideration for an award. In fact, the injury, and the way Vick has come back from it, should enhance his chances."

Can SOMEONE whisper into this ignoramus' ear that Brady PLAYED the second half of last season with broken ribs after coming back from a torn ACL???????

We could try, but I'm not sure he can see the Pats. He's looking for them somewhere on the retrograde.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Statistically, he'll have played in 13 games. He'll have over 3k yds passing, over 20 Tds throwing and a Qb rating of over 100. He'll also have ran for 700 yds with 8-10 rushing TDs.

The guy is having a great year, no doubt, but he has missed 17 quarters this year, so even if he finishes out the year he will have only played 3/4 of the season. That is a huge factor.

I mean, Philly beat Atlanta pretty soundly with Vick out, so it isn't like they suck without him. Yeah, he is a dynamic player who has had made a lot of big plays, but if you look at what Brady has done over the full season it is hard to argue Vick is a better candidate (IMO).

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

my problem with rhoden is, the elephant in the room is if brady were african american.....

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

I wouldnt mind if vick won...then suffered a career ending injury.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Personally, I disagree with this... I think it's a weak argument, actually. It's weak and unfair to Brady. This article doesn't read objectively to me. They aren't the same type of NFL quarterback. Moreover, it sounds to me as if this writer is awarding Vick for being nimble of foot. So? I'm not persuaded... My vote would go to the more deserving candidate, that's Brady this season.

I think this writer could be reaching for a feel good scenario in which Vick silences his detractors, and justifies the franchise moving on from McNabb.

Poor Tom Brady... If only he could muster more than his one rushing touchdown this season. Because that's so much more important than having the highest current quarterback rating.

Brady might not be as fast a runner at his position as a Vick or whoever, but you've to be cognizant of how important of a player you're to your team. Brady won't try to get inured if he doesn't have to. Football is more about what you do with your brain.

I hope that this doesn't become a popularity contest. That would be a shame. Everyone likes Vick or Peyton.

Take Brady and Vick away, and their teams become shells of themselves. But which team suffers more?

Who is more versatile? It would be infinitely easier for Vick to adjust and play more like Brady than it would for Brady to adjust and be more like Vick.

Injuries are a part of the sport but Vick missing games this season shouldn't be discounted.

Some feel Vick’s absence due to injury should give the edge to Brady. That’s foolish. Vick was injured trying to make a play, rushing for a touchdown, doing something far outside of Brady’s job description.

Perhaps, this is irrelevant to the MVP race but I won't touch this one.

More than any time in recent history, this year’s selection will be complicated by moral and ethical issues surrounding Vick and the voters’ view of redemption, retribution, second chances — and even questions about whether he should be allowed to own a dog.

Yes, for one season... While Brady has been Brady for the past seven seasons. Not to mention, Vick's in a contract year. That would be enough motivation for me to play All-World. Especially, since I'm trying to repair my public image and reestablish myself in the league as a starting caliber quarterback.

The new Michael Vick — the Vick who takes football seriously, who spends his days off speaking to students about the perils of knuckleheadedness — is far more appealing.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

In order to overcome a 21 point deficit, one must first be behind by 21 points. Not saying that Vick's performance wasn't impressive, but Brady shouldn't be discreditted just because he doesn't allow his team to get behind by 21 points in the first place.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

The talking heads want to ponder a Brady vs. Vick debate solely for the purpose of debate. After all, wouldn't it be boring to have such a clear, no brain winner (think Brady in 2007). If they can at least create a debate, they will.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Watch this video of the 4th Quarter game-winnig touchdown.

Brady literally ORDERED Hernandez to score this TD - - watch before the snap.

THAT is a QB who controls the game.

NFL Videos: QB Brady to TE Hernandez, 10-yd, pass, TD

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

I hope Brady gets it and I think he will.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

Brady has been MVP since 2001. He doesn't need to prove that again. His record alone speaks for itself.

Re: Vick Stirs Debate in the M.V.P. Vote

4 MVP trophies to 1 are one of the things that will be pointed to when people say Goober Fivehead is better than Brady. Brady has lead them to 3 titles and 4 Super Bowls but has to put up unheard of #'s to even be considered. Manning threw 16 picks in is last MVP season in 09. Brady has 4 this year.

Excellent post. Replayed that TD several times. Packers change up their D. Brady notices and makes adjustments to counter their adjustments. Waves Hernandez way outside left. Throws TD pass to Hernandez. Just another day at the MVP office.

Let Vick win the stupid popularity contest MVP. Brady will be even more focused on winning SB MVP again.
