What are your opinions on Kyle Arrington?

In accordance to Rotoworld, Arrington will be an "Exclusive Rights Free Agent." Regardless, in your mind, has he shown enough this season to be a returning starter next season ahead of Butler. Or should Belichick make corner back opposite McCourty an open competition.

In my opinion, I would like to see somebody beat out Arrington. I wonder, has Arrington played better than Butler or has Butler simply played worst. I want to give Butler another chance, though.

When you're ranked statistically as one of the lower tier secondaries in the league. Blame goes all around.

And what to do with Bodden. Do you move McCourty over to right corner back? Or do you decide on a right corner back and Bodden is the backup to McCourty at left corner back going forward.

Overall though, he has played good IMO.

I like him as #4 or #5 CB.

The early offseason projection is Bodden and McCourty as starters, Butler as nickel, Arrington as #4. Wilhite competes with newcomers, Carter, et al. for a job.

McCourty, Arrington, and Butler are all useful STers, so that aspect makes BB smile.

I would think Bodden is once again the RCB, McCourty remains the LCB, and the rest (Butler, Arrington, Wilhite) will battle it out for other (slot, nickel, dime) playing time.

I don't see a reason to leave Bodden on the bench as McCourty's backup.

As far as the pass defense stats go, there's other reasons (e.g., pass rush) beyond blaming that on the performance of the corners.

Arrington has played better than anyone could have reasonably expected him to. Most didn't even think he'd make the roster when training camp started.

He's no Randy Gay.

This guy should be our #3 or #4 CB next year - - but most importantly, he's an ace special teamer.

There is definitely a need for Arrington on the Patriots. He has been an important cog this year - - if he didn't step up this team would have been in trouble.

And yes, the Randall Gay analogy works - - I remember Randall being one of the real unsung heroes of 2004. He too was an excellent tackler for a CB.

McCourty is a left corner. Bodden is a right corner. So McCourty will play on the left and Bodden on the right. Arrington can back up the outside corners and compete for the #3 snaps next year, and be a force on special teams. Problem solved.

Arrington is perfect for #3 CB behind McCourty and Bodden. He can compete for the #2 spot with Bodden over the next couple years. I think if Butler proves that he has something in him then we may not need Arrington or vice versa.

The reality is a team that wants to compete needs 4 CB's.

Butler does seem better suited for the slot.

The real question should be how to build beyond Bodden, McCourty, Butler, and Arrington.

I think Arrington has overachieved which isn't a bad thing for the Patriots. It's just that fans need to keep their expectations of him for next season realistic.

#1 McCourty, #2 Bodden, #3 Arrington, #4 Butler. That's a deep secondary. I'd bring them all back. It's too early to give up on Butler and Arrington has been performing way above expectations and is a physical tackling CB that is valuable for the Pats to have.

With the amount of subpackages being played in the NFL these days, keeping Arrington is a no brainer. He has shown he can play on the boundary. So he not only gives you a good option as a nickel back, but also allows you to play one of your starting corners in the slot against a tough matchup, like Wes Welker.

Bodden plays RCB, McCourty plays LCB. That will likely be the starting duo next season. Either Butler or Wilhite will be the slot receiver, and Arrington would be in a battle for the outside CB3. As an aside, If Butler can't win the slot role or pass Arrington for the CB3 spot on the outside, I would expect that Butler's spot on the team would be in danger.

McCourty and Bodden are by far the best two corners, they will both start next year.

Preseason it was Bodden at RCB and Butler at LCB. Then when Bodden was hurt, they switched Butler to RCB and put McCourty at LCB.

i think we have an ideal scenarionext year in our secondary... bodden the established vet who was our number 1 cb coming back and hungry... arrington got almost a full season of starting time under him belt and cane fill in for either spot in case of injury. butler is young and talented... just needs to bring it all together and is probably our best slot cd. Wilhite has started for this d (shudder) and he is really our 5th cb and better bring it on special teams or is probably goneskies

Arrington hasn't shown consistently that he can tackle. It's frustrating watching him get tossed around the field and having a safety or LB clean up his mess. Can't wait for Bodden to come back next season. Honestly i'd rather pick up a solid #3 in FA or the draft, Arrington gets abused far too often. Maybe he'd be OK in the Nickel.
