Dom spent the majority of the 2008 season with the Pats helping coach up the secondary and part assistant coach.

How much knowledge can he bring to the Packers as DC to help with tendencies of the Pats on both sides of the ball?

I would think little since the team has many new players on defense and different schemes on offense with Moss gone and Brady back..Moss was on that years team and except for a few plays,Brady was not

well it goes both ways .But their D is the 1st in pass defense so that itself will be a challenge

Allow me to don my homer cape for a minute. Comparing the Pats offense to the best defense is like comparing the best Porterhouse steak to the best canned sausage.

Well, his knowledge of the Pats didn't do us much good when he was here (didn't everyone want him gone for failing to unleash the dogs [which haven't really been unleased since either]), so I doubt it's going to do the Pack much good.

under Dom Capers the Patriots were almost "all vanilla, all the time" on defense. I actually think he was the secondary coach/assistant coach, not a d coordinator. but at any rate, the 2008 Pats defense literally made ONE big, game changing/saving play - Merriweather's strip sack of Seneca Wallace (I think) in Seattle as Seattle was driving trying to tie or win...that 2008 defense didn't turn the ball over much at all...

Correct but to provide some context:

Trent "looking for a bench" Edwards
Shawn "coming off the bench" Hill
Donovan "on the bench behind Rex Grossman" McNabb
Chad "tried to bench him" Henne
Brett "mercifully on the bench now" Favre (x2)
Mark "would be benched if backup wasn't 40 yo" Sanchez
John "career bench-warmer" Kitna
Troy "should never leave the bench" Smith
Drew "amazed he is still allowed on a bench" Stanton

Amazingly, those are the QBs they've faced in 10 of their 13 games. Even more amazingly, they are only 7-3 in those games..with 6 of them at home.

What about the other 3 games?

Vick (not yet the starter): 16-24/175/1/0 (plus 100+ on the ground)
Cutler: 16-27/221/1/1
Ryan: 24-28/197/1/0

Avg for those 3: 71%, 198 yds, 3-1 TD/INT ratio

Not saying they are bad on pass defense. I'm just not sure their #1 ranking is as bright and shiny as it would appear.

3 starting DBs and 3 starting LBs weren't here when capers was here

I think Capers left because he wanted to do more with the D, but Dean Pees wouldn't allow it.

Good context, another thought is that our O and D is vastly different than last year..

He may offer some insight into Brady, but probably no more than can be picked up on film by a good coach..

FWIW Rodney was saying last night on NFLN that the Pack under Capers runs a zone blitz scheme similar to Pittsburgh's and basically Brady eats those for lunch. Unless they have the horses to play man and get after the receivers at the LOS to break up the rhythm of this offense their ranking isn't going to help them tonight...

They do have some great corners though. Tramon Williams has made a huge jump this season and they still have Woodson, though I think he's a bit over-rated.

But I don't think it'll be enough. Capers may have some general info, but I don't think they'll be that helpful. For one thing, our defense has been re-built since his time here. Only 4 guys from that 2008 team will take the field for us tonight. Big Vince and James Sanders were the only established players. Meriweather was in his second year at the time, while Guyton was a rookie.

Offensively, we've changed a lot of things since that time, but 2008 in particular was very different simply because of Brady's injury. So any thoughts on the offense are probably outdated. Our offense has also been re-built, and he would only recognize Welker, Light, Mankins and Koppen among the starters from that 2008 season.

So personnel-wise, doubt he has that much insight.

He'll be able to explain how Brady shredded his defense much better than the average DC would.

....no....

Capers is a good DC regardless and had very good talent on hand that can execute his scheme.

I'm sure there are few things that he can take away from his time here in 2008 that he can apply in this game.

With that said, I still don't expect the Pack to shut down the Pats offense. They'll get some stops here and there...

for some reason im totally uninterested in this game and feel completely confident the pats will win easily...

which almost ALWAYS means they either lose or come close to it. for some reason i'm reminded of the eagles game in 07. ho hum game, backup QB...WAIT WE'RE DOWN IN THE 4Q?

Will it help the Packers game plan?

Absolutely. I am sure we drilled a backup running back for info on the Jets when we got him. I am sure a coach would know even more.

Will it be enough?

Probably not.

BB knows at least as much about his tendencies, which likely did not change much since he left then DC would know about this defense, which did change.

Brady said that the toughest D's are ones that can create a pass rush with thier 4 man pass rush and play zone behind that...is the packs d-line up to the task???

Rodney says Capes being here is advantage Patriots because BB knows his thinking.
Dungy says its the same D we faced in Pitt, and Brady wil hang another 40 on them.
