It’s been a pretty interesting Friday so far. The Shanahans benched Donovan McNabb, which means that the Redskins will UNLEASH THE DRAGON at Cowboys stadium this weekend.

Does anyone actually think he is better than McNabb?

Careful here, even prominent folks get in trouble dissing McNabb.

That said it's another botched trade of a 'name' player. Such prominent FA signings cause ESPN and others to raise huge boners over teams like the Jets and Miami pre season, all for naught. In fact there were numerous threads posted here by fantasy obsessed reality impaired Patsfans that we were doomed because our front office wasn't inking deals with the 2010 versions of AD.

McNabb should go to the 49ers, or maybe vikings?

He wont win in either of those places either. But they many be 2 of the only teams that want him.

Arizona could also use him badly. There's no shortage of teams looking for a QB.

If you aren't going to make the playoffs just start Grossman and see if he can spark the offense. It will give you a better outlook on whether you're going to cut Mcnabb or not.

Grossman couldn't spark a fire in a tinder box. If you had a young backup worth testing benching McPuke would make sense. Under the circumstances it makes less sense than trading that #2 for him did... Shanny has an immense ego and no clue what it takes to QB a team to a championship. Had he not inherited a HOF'er in Elway he'd have never won a damn thing. Meanwhile McNabb has proven that he wasn't underappreciated and misunderstood in Philly... He's always struck me as not only thin skinned but entitled, kinda like Drewpie or Favrah...gunslingers who really just want to go sling it on Sundays. They won't work at their craft because they see no need to, and suggesting they need to is scoffed at like an insult. One of the reasons Brady has gotten as far as he has is he embraced constructive criticism and could then lead others to as well... Brains vs. ego. Same thing that has allowed Bill to achieve HOF status (as opposed to Shannahan who will get in on luck of the draw and a little salary cap violating). Too bad because what you're seeing now is who he really is...

McNabb should just go home and count his millions and play with his kids. He had a high floor and low ceiling when he was drafted and he still had wheels. His window to win slammed shut once the wheels failed him. That's why I'll take the cerebral student of the game over the athletic QB any day. Like fine wine they get better with age.

Washington Redskins: The gift that keeps on giving

I just really have a problem with a QB that looks rather doughy ... i like my linemen to have that look ... just in the face though ... they need muscle.

The Rat is taking his kid's side over McNabb...I'd bet he's gone before McNabb leaves

As much as everyone talked about Shanahan, Ive never seen anything to prove how great a coach he is. He never drafted Elway, he got lucky Elway was there. Plus hes coached one year in DC , alienates his defensive players, lies about pulling McNabb, benches McNabb, lies about the team being ok with it ( most have tweeted they are confused and outraged about benching McNabb), hes destroyed a once great defense, the offense is horrid. Exactly what is this guy building? To me, same a Mora built the Colts and drafted Manning, but Dungy got credit. Dan Reeves traded for Elway and built the Broncos before Shanahan showed up and got all the credit.

I respect McNabb, hes not the best QB in the NFL but hes a class act, and hes better than most when he has players, there are none in DC. I would like to see him find a home in KC, Steelers, miami, vikings, or SF. Somewhere he can make a difference and fans might respect what he brings to the table, for a few years before he retires, and can teach the next QB, like he changed vick.

This. And tell me how a team is supposed to respect an OC when daddy is the HC? It's like the kid that always started in Little League because daddy was the coach.

As a DC area resident I see the Skins play more than any other team. There are sooo many issues with this team that need to be addressed before changing QB's.
McNabb's deal will turn into a lot of guaranteed money if he plays next season so this little test run is more about the payroll than winning games. McNabb will be done this year. Hopefully, the Shanahans will be gone soon, too.

I think the McNabb is a class act mantra is largely urban myth. He's not even in shape at this juncture, he cannot take criticism and never could, he's incredibly thin skinned and he's not a leader, in fact he is as much a finger pointer as those who dared point a finger at him from time to time, including his former bosses... He's been stealing $$$ from his employers for the last 4-5 years resting on his early career laurels. When his game doesn't translate it's always someone or something else's fault.

KC wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole because Charlie is running the same offense there as here and it requires a cerebral QB with the character to work hard on and off the field and the intestinal fortitude to take criticism and elevate his game and lead those around him to be willing to do the same. The Steelers? As what, Batch's replacement?? In the AFCE he'd be eaten alive. In Minny he'd be Favre light. In SF or Oaktown I suppose anything would be an improvement although I don't see them going anywhere soon under present management. Pahleese don't credit him for Vick. That rehab has come from within the dogkiller courtesy of your Federal government and his savior, Andy Reid. Donovan tolerated his presence for a time because what else was he to do..., he's not a mentor and he's not someone you would want to mentor your next generation because of the flaws inherent in his on field game and his off season approach to it.

He'll probably land in AZ - where I believe he makes his off season home - because Wisenhut is desperate and he'll think he can land veteran lightening in a bottle again.

That's the arrogant Shannahan ego which is largely why he wore out his welcome in Denver the farther away they got from the Elway era. Snyder was the perfect fit because he's all about buying into myth... He should have waited a year for Jerry to have an opening. But that ego couldn't sit out more than a season...
