Pete was trading a Big Contract...Branch just didn't fit well in that Seattle Offense, plus he was always injured for them. I vote Ryan for giving up Woodhead!

Not going to answer this, but I would like to name those who were outraged that we traded a fourth for Branch. Where are they now? I am heading towards the thread when Branch got back to know them.

Seahawks got something for Branch; Jets got nothing for Woodhead.

Seahawks had several other capable receivers: Jets had a short term rental (LdT) and a couple of others with little or no experience.

Branch was making more than he was worth in Seattle, diminishing his value; Woodhead was probably making the minimum in New Jersey.

Woodhead is six years younger than Branch.



I wouldn't say Carroll's trading Branch was a dumb move at all; more like a win-win for both sides.

In hindsight, even Ryan will admit that letting Woodhead go was a poor decision.

That's a much better question. On one hand Miami did at least get something in return - even if that center they drafted only lasted a year or two. On the other hand the Dolphins should have had a better idea of what Welker was capable of than the Jets did with Woodhead.

Woodhead by miles. The way the NYJ found themselves in this pickle is the real story. They traded up one place higher than the Pats to choose McKnight, RB. BB chose Hernandez with the next pick. To protect an out-of-shape McKnight on the roster, Woody was released. Welcome to the Pats "find" of the year.

No contest. Ryan let Woodhead go despite the fact that he earned a roster spot and got nothing in return. Carroll let go of a guy that wasn't producing to the level of his contract and got a 4th round pick back.

Off-topic for a sec...I'm actually starting to wonder if Belichick has some sort of psychic feel for team-building. Keeps 4 QBs when nobody does that and the 4th guy turns into a Hall of Famer. Trains Troy as a CB out of the blue the very year his secondary falls apart. Picks up Woodhead the same weekend Faulk gets hurt and goes on IR. Now he gets Chevis Jackson and McCourty gets hurt and might miss some time (though Wilhite probably was the reason for that signing...but still). There are other examples, but this dude has some freaky timing with some of his moves.

I know you guys want to bash the Jets and Seahawks for giving up on Branch and Woodhead.

The truth is that both are having success with the Pats because of your QB and coach. If you put Woodhead back on the Jets who do not have the best QB in the NFL playing at his best level ever then he's just another jag. Clearly Branch is a much better player with Brady and BB. Woodhead looks a lot better catching perfectly thrown accurate passes from Brady then catching passes from Sanchez.

The Pats could have picked up Woodhead many times over the last few years.

I give the Pats a lot of credit for understanding how to get the most out of both players.

But let's be honest if Chad Henne was throwing to Branch and Woodhead was on the Bills they both probably struggle.

Props to BB and the Pats for getting two guys that would excel in their scheme, but how many other coaches/QB's in the NFL would make Branch and Woodhead look so good?
