I've been playing the espn playoff machine.

2010 NFL Playoff Machine - Simulate Matchups and Scenarios - ESPN

If Charges win out which seems probable considering their schedule then
It seems Jets need to beat the Steelers or Bears and then beat Bills to make Playoffs.
I can't see them beating either Steelers or Bears.
Can anyone confirm this.

It would be awesome if they don't make it but I think they will take the wild card. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't because, like you said, they have to face the Bears and Steelers. It's funny because they talked so much smack and now their window is closing.

If Kansas City takes a dump, the Chargers can still win the division and they wouldn't be worried about a wild card anymore. Realistically, I only see the Jets pulling out one of their remaining three games. I think Pittsburgh shuts them out and the Bears take care of them. Buffalo is also no gimme either with the way they have been playing of late.

Everyone seems to think the Bills are a walkover.. That is not an easy game.

bah kontra beat me to it... anyway I concur

I have a feeling the Pittsburgh game is going to be a lot closer than what people think. The Jets will probably make the playoffs, but after their loss this week missing them is becoming more and more of a reality.

I think KC is the key for the Jets. They're projecting KC to win out, they have St Louis, Tenn and Oakland.

edit: I see, the poster projected, I still think KC is key for the Jets. If KC wins out and the Jets lose 2 of 3 they're in trouble.

If Cassel can't go for even one of those games, KC is in trouble.

Yeah.... Chiefs fans who'd spent the past 2 years ripping Cassel are suddenly praying he'll be healthy for the next game. It's been very amusing to watch the reality of Brodie Croyle kick them in the head.

It's amazing, isn't it? Even during a streak in which, aside from a guy named Tom Brady, Cassel was the hottest QB in the NFL they bashed him.

If the Jets finish 10-6 and either of the following situations occur then the Jets miss the playoffs:

- Colts (JAX, @OAK, TEN) sweep their games to win the South and Jags (WAS, @HOU) win their remaining 2 games

- Chiefs (@STL, TEN, OAK) sweep their games to win the West and Bolts (SF, @CIN, @DEN) sweep their games

Ironically, with people starting to realize that the Jets haven't won a game of consequence for weeks, their poor SOV (currently .376) would be the tiebreaker that keeps them out of the playoffs.

unfortunately the jets wiill make the playoffs i think. thy will beat either the bears or pitt both of which have questionable offensive lines and bills. its that kind of a season so far

As Deus said before, Cassel could go 16-0, with 51 TDs and 0 INTs, and find a cure for cancer while the D was on the field, and a sizable number of KC fans would still complain.

How much fun is it picking against the Jets and picking the Patriots to win every game? I could sit here and do it for hours as a repeat activity.

The funniest part is because of Oakland we still get a higher first round pick than the Jets before trades.

If BB and TB have home-fiend throughout the playoff I don't care who makes it to the dance.........................

They are gonna have to beat us in our house and this is a much better team than last year. They are playing head & shoulders above the rest of the league!

Croyle is 0-10 as a starter, enough said. They need Cassel to come back ASAP.

Thanks for the info - now we have something to root for (and I will definatly root for Steelers as much as I hate to do that). However, while I do see Colts winning out - in the scenarios above alot of teams would have to sweep remaining games either the A) AFC South option or the B) AFC West option you were kind enough to figure out above.

I just don't see those sweeps happening as it has been that kind of season of parity. Very few teams are on a roll right now. Sad to say that by having Jets out of the playoffs (as much as I would like to see) - means possiblitiy of a Colts or San Diego team then correspondingly taking Jets place as a wildcard. And I would much rather NEP face Jets in playoffs than play against Colts or San Diego. It is really a worse of 2 evils situation.

Best possible scenario would be if Jets out of playoff and correspondingly that lets either KC or Jags in as wildcards IF either of those cant win their respective divisions. And that actually could be a fairly likely scenario as KC is not on a roll and I can't see Jags sweeping the season series at Indy this week. I would love for them (Jags) to prove me wrong. Go head Jack Rio - post this on your bulliten board!
