Somewhat OT: Giants-Vikes moved to Monday night

Weather out this way is brutal-- `18+ inches of snow in the last 24 hours, nasty winds to boot blowing it all over the place. Airport's been closed most of the day. Word's just coming out also apparently they tried to turn the heat up inside the dome with the hopes the snow would just melt and slide off... and it had the opposite effect with the weight of the wet snow actually collapsing the roof. I can't substantiate that, but many of my buds around the area are saying this.

Dang it ... I finally get a chance to watch my dad's team (the vikes, usually I don't get their games) and this happens:

This does not sound good - from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune which is calling the snowstorm "historic."
:

And for the first time in years, the snowstorm completely shut down Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. All four of the airport's runways were closed about 11:30 a.m. One reopened late Saturday afternoon, allowing flights to resume -- even though nearly all of the airlines serving the Twin Cities had canceled their operations.

As the blizzard continued to rage, airport managers were opening the runway for a half-hour, then closing it for 20 minutes so crews could plow off the newly fallen snow, said spokesman Pat Hogan.

I wonder if the game would have been postponed if it WASN'T in a dome.

Well, at least the Favre drama gets 24 more hours.

That sucks for people who had tickets to this game but had work Monday night.

Cool, what time are they playing? Would be sweet if they put it in so it's a double header to the ravens-texans monday night game.
EDIT:Appears its on fox and it will be at 8pm only for local areas to the giants and vikings.

I can see the headline now, Ray Lewis and the vaunted Ravens defense go up against Matt Schaub as the texans try to keep their slim(very slim) playoffs hopes alive, then Eli Manning and the giants try to keep pace with the eagles as they take on the old gunslinger favre and the vikings. Ravens-Texans followed by Giants-Vikings!

Random thoughts about this..
1) Too bad it gives Favre an extra day to see if he can play and be the center of attention.....
2) Eagles fans are excited that the Giants are stuck in Minneapolis and that the game is delayed until Monday night, meaning that the Giants don't get back to NJ until some time Tuesday because they play the Giants next Sunday ( 12/19) and the less time to prepare, the better for Philly.....
3) Were the Giants negligent in not pre-planning and making sure that they to there in time? The Dolphins flew up a day earlier to NJ preparing for inclement weather and many other teams adjusted their schedule to get to their destination. The NFL Constitution allows teams to recoup extra costs if a team is found negligent. It may cost the Vikings more by rescheduling the game and it sure is costing ESPN money. Instead of having the exclusive game tomorrow night (Balt @ Hou), fans can switch to NYG @ Minn on Fox...

Yes it was a blizzard but it wasn't Hurricane Katrina or a wildfire like the one that affected San Diego a few years back. This was a blizzard and in the Midwest in December, they happen and you plan ahead and get there earlier....They have charter jets so there is much more flexibility than the average traveler.

Minneapolis, MN Forecast < KARE news report on the storm

There was so much snow Minnesota snowplows were pulled off the roads because it was too dangerous. Major roads were closed in at least 5 Midwest states on Saturday.

lol!

Next week the Vikings will play their second consecutive MNF game. Has that ever been done before? Or is that a record?

I don;t know if a team has ever done it but Randy Moss did it earlier this season, playing on that Mon night vs Miami and the next week for the Vikings versus the Jets....

Reminds me of the Blizzard of 78 here in New England.....

No plows..snowed like hell for 3 days...cars stuck on major hwys...people found later frozen to death or asphyxiated in their cars.........all hotels and motels were full as people that could, walked for shelter.

Bad stuff :(

Hey! I remember that one. lol. Afterwards, lotta people were walking around with tee ****s saying "I survived the blizzard of '78". I was 12. I was a lotta fun. No skool and stuff.
Know wat else was fun? The NYC blackout about 6 years ago. That was fun to walk around in too. No wacky wild west looting and fires like the '77 one tho.

Eisen just said it's looking like Detroit on Monday night. They needed a domed venue because the Giants did not have cold weather gear with them and it fits the TV bill because Fox has a game today from Detroit and their crew and equipment in place. At the end of the day it's all about the TV broadcast-ability...

Game to be played in DETROIT. 8:20 ET start time.. (Per Schefter)

Giants / Vikings trying to see when they can get to Detroit because of snow in Detroit.

According to travelmath.com, the flight from Minny to Detroit is 1.5 hours. About the same as a flight from Boston to Charlotte, NC.
