Statement From Patriots Brandon Spikes
By: Ian Logue

Rookie linebacker Brandon Spikes just released a statement following the report that he had been suspended for four games for violating the league's banned substance policy....

Based on that, if true, the NFL needs to rethink it's policy. He took a medication ( assuming a prescription ) and he banned from playing, it wasn't performance enhancing... odd...

I admit to being a certified homer and I don't believe any of these guys anymore. Just pay your dues, return when you can and we all move on.

I just read his statement also and I really want to believe him. But something doesn't pass the smell test. A medication that causes a failed drug test? I'm bewildered but it is what it is.......

Makes me wonder when the last time Clay Matthews submitted a sample...

Supposedly, there are cold meds, flu meds, etc., which can trigger a positive. But, I'm Mr. Skeptical These leagues give these guys detailed info regarding what over-the-counter and scripted meds can be a problem. If Brandon didn't pay attention, it's on him. And if he did pay attention and did something else, it's on him also. Great time to screw up...

I hear ya, jackson... BTW: I'm a certified homer as well. We'll survive this issue with Spikes. Hope he settles down and flies straight once this suspension is over....

This is not the first time this has happened in sports I know it happened at the winter Olympics in salt lake city to skier because a vicks decongestant being different in The UK and USA taking it from fine to illegal he had checked it in the UK and needed to replace it while at the games thought it would be ok. I'm not sure but it could be as different states having different make up's of things or maybe he's been across the border to canada. He cold just be dumb and if he is not appealing it suggest's that he knows he should have checked it and is at fault.

It's definitely happened. A gymnast who won the All-Around gold medal in the Olympics was stripped of it when she tested positive for a banned substance which happened to be in a cold medication she was taking. Andreea Raducan was her name. It was really unfortunate.

Yeah. It's always the dang cold medicine... :rocker:

As someone who very occasionally gets sinus headaches, i can tell you the Sinutabs with the certain stimulant were changed and don't do crap now.

Don't know how you'd get them anyway, but I could see it, if that's the case.

You basically feel like slamming yourself between the eyes with a hammer, it hurts so bad.

The ingredient has caused heart damage and could be performance enhancing.

There's plenty of medications that fail drug tests in elite sport. Usually you need a therapeutic use exemption form or similar if there's a medical condition you have that necessitates the need for you to ingest that substance.

The line is that thin with what you can/can't take.
