Would BB take a dive?

Imagine that the Jets lose out, and the Dolphins win 3 straight while the Pats clinch the #1 seed one week 16. The Pats would then host the Dolphins in week 17, where if the Dolphins win, the Jets miss the playoffs. Would BB lay down for the Dolphins so the Jets miss the playoffs?

The Jets are 9-3 and the Dolphins are 6-6. If the Jets "win out," the Dolphins won't be anywhere close to able to knock the Jets out of the playoffs.

Don't understand the question.

I don't think BB is above resting starters in the final game of a season to increase the chances of a matchup he views as more favorable in the playoffs. Or, perhaps, of avoiding a possible opponent. But I don't think he'd ever do it just because of some rivalry or for non-tactical reasons.

Edit -- Oh, I get it now that you've edited. Ok, see my answer above though. I could seem him considering it if it would keep the Chargers or Colts out, and he thought those teams presented tougher matchups or somehting. But no, not the hypo you propose.

I meant lose out, and since edited my post.

I think we lost Week 16 2005 season on purpose. To draw Jax instead of Pittsburgh. Don't think Miami will be the team. Jax and SD could each finish 10-6. If Jets lose to Chicago, Miami and Pitt that would give them 6 losses. 4 conference losses. Same as Jax and SD provided Jax only loses to Indy and wins the rest.

Re: Would BB take a dive?

I hope nobody here actually thinks that it is a possibility. Bill couldn't care less about any other team. He cares about his team and winning every game. The real question is that if this is the scenario, will Bill pull out the starters in the 2nd half of the game to keep them fresh?

Re: Would BB take a dive?

IMHO BB proved he would "take a dive" if he thought it led to a favorable matchup when the Patriots lost the last game of the year when Cassell threw a 2 point conversion attempt to tie -- into the 3rd row. That resulted in us getting the Jags at home, IIRC, instead of the Steelers or something.

That was 2005. We ended up beating the Jags at home but then losing to the Broncos in Denver. The Steelers took their 6th seed Wild Card slot and won out, winning the SB.

We murdered the Jets on Monday night. Does anyone think that Bill is scared to face them again at home?? C'mon man.

Re: Would BB take a dive?

Hell, no! He respect the history and integrity of the game WAY too much to even think of doing something like that. That goes way beyong any hating of the Jets or the rivalry or whatever.

The only dive I hope he'll take is the one in Hawaii after the Super Bowl win. :D

Re: Would BB take a dive?

Even better yet...he tries and fails.

Brady and Welker sit on the bench for the final three quarters of the game as Hoyer and Edelman light up the Dolphins secondary. McCourty watches from the sideline as Arrington returns two Henne ints for a TDs.

Re: Would BB take a dive?

"i have my hands full worrying about my own team.Iam not concerned about 31 other teams"

Re: Would BB take a dive?

The Jets are NOT as bad as we made them look anyway. So the answer is, NO

He wouldn't do it so the jets miss, but he would do it if he liked the seeding better.

He did it a couple years back in a game against miami in week 17. Cassel almost won the game by mistake.

I was at that game, the same one in which Flutie did his dropkick.

I believe Bam Childress was wide open in the endzone on the two point conversion, Cassel almost threw the pass out of the stadium not to win.

16 Dec 26 NE 31 @ NYJ 21 Final 2005

Re: Would BB take a dive?

Actually they are two different questions. The question here is "would BILL BELICHICK, as the coach of the NEP purposely lose the game." Its a question about Bill.

My question was "would YOU, as a fan of the NEP root for the Dolphins." It is a question about you.

Granted many people answered the alternative question in each thread. But the actual question was different. Kinda like asking "who do you think will win the game?" vs "who are you rooting for?"

Re: Would BB take a dive?

The chances of BB taking a dive are about the same as the chance of the Earth exploding in the next 15 minutes.
