ESPN is reporting that they ran into a very newly built wall in fact it was the walls first time in use.

Injury report as follows

Chung Probable Rookie Wall
Spikes Probable Rookie Wall

Only ESPN would report that Chung is a Rookie.

Hope they can still play on Sunday

If Spike is injured I would not be surprised, Warren hit a player right into Spikes upper thigh and those can hurt.

Bumps and bruises...

If they don't travel, then it is a problem. We need all hands on deck for this game's rotation.

Is it that they are injured or that they simply weren't there for the media portion of practice? The two are totally different things, although missing part of practice, no matter the reason, gets you on the injury list. I just wish they wouldn't report them as injured unless they are known to be injured.

It's a good thing our depth is so much better this year. I'm fine with Sergio Brown or Darius Butler stepping in for Chung. Wilhite would be even better if he gets healthy.

Losing Spikes could hurt the run defense, though, if Guyton still hasn't learned to shed blocks yet. They'd have to move Mayo to the strong side and put Guyton in at weak. They used that combination last year, and it wasn't ideal. At least Mayo has improved quite a bit this year. Maybe he's better prepared for that role now.

How much time has Butler spent at safety? I"M certainly no expert, but I would think Butler isn't well suited for Chung's role physically. Besides they've got Page back.

The only time you'll know if a Patriot is injured or just missed the media portion of practice is if you read their obituary in the Globe. That, or they get put on IR.

Ding ding ding. It is ridiculously bad journalism to leap from "absent" to "injured." Remarkable.

Chung has actually been playing a fair amount of time as the nickel back this year (they've rotated a lot of bodies through there) from what I've seen. They'll play Sanders and Meriweather as the two deep safeties, and Chung will be the fifth DB and sometimes even covers a slot receiver at the LOS.

I think that's what the poster was referring to when he said Butler could take some of Chung's time. Brown takes his reps as a deep safety, Butler his reps in the slot as the nickel.

Damnit, not good. Hope it's not too serious.

Also looks like Wright, Wilhite are still out and Pryor was back on the absent list At this point I just hope those 3 can suit up in January.

Gotcha. Thanks!

I dunno. When the short days of early December roll around, I start to think of injuries as part of the NFL landscape for every team, including the Pats. As long as Brady and most of the major guys can take the field, I think we'll be able to stand our own with any team...and, when and if Fred Taylor finally returns, we might end up with a real bonus in a well-rested, veteran RB who is raring to go.

Reiss is now reporting that Spikes and Chung being out is not injury related.

????

I'm not fine with Sergio Brown or Darius Butler taking Chung's place at safety if he is out.

Meriweather and Sanders are fine starting safeties, and Page is a reasonable #3 when three are needed.

Sergio Brown is a special teamer and our emergency #9 defensive back.

At least Fred Taylor is not on the list :)
