That contract is absurd. Nice player though. Man, $20 million per for a guy who's never hit 20 homers, and has an OBP of .350? Hey, no salary cap so the money is irrelevent. The Sox should have a sick team. A little too lefty in the line up, but nasty all over. They have to be the favorite at this point.

True. The line from Yankeedom will be that the overpayment is to keep him away from the Yankees. Does this put the RibMaster back in CF?

I'd be very happy to have signed Crawford. That said I can't begin to imagine that is the deal he is getting. That would put Gonzalez near 250 million for 8 years if you pro-rate Crawford's "apparent" contract with AG's actual production.

Henry must be killing the stocks atm.

wow now we are talking:D i cant believe that got this guy. they are going to cover a **** load of ground in the out field between crawford and elsbury. and they are going to have a very deep bench. i wish i could be more optimistic about josh [whiplash from watching him give up hr after hr]beckett and lackey. those two contracts for those guys look really bad at this point.

I'm a Yankees fan and I was hoping the Yankees wouldn't sign Crawford to some ridiculous deal, since they have already have a Crawford junior in Brett Gardner. I felt the same way about the Sox and Ellsbury. Were I a Sox fan, I'd have much preferred that this money be invested in some right handed power, as well as some bullpen help. Ellsbury and Crawford are virtually identical players. Their stats are very similar if you look at them. This past season must have soured the front office on Ellsbury. Regardless, Crawford is a terrific player. He absolutely makes the Sox better. I just think the contract isn't a good one. Again, it's only money. Something which the Sox have to spend.

Defensively the Sox should be outstanding in the OF. Think of the ground that a foursome of Ellsbury, Crawford, Cameron, and Drew will cover. Their infield should be terrific as well. That will certainly help the pitching staff bounce back this year.

Cliff Lee by Sunday?

Interesting tidbit from Ken Rosenthal

Before signing Carl Crawford, the Red Sox may have engaged in some good old-fashioned negotiating hijinks.

It would be just like the Sox to throw a monkey wrench into the Yankees’ attempt to sign Cliff Lee

And this little stunt, if it indeed happened, would have qualified.

The Sox are one team that made a seven-year offer to Lee, according to officials with another club.

But there was a catch.

The offer was for a lower dollar figure than Lee would accept, making it an offer that Lee was certain to refuse.

Why would the Sox do such a thing?

Because with such an offer, they would empower Lee’s agents to say they had a seven-year bid, potentially forcing the Yankees to increase their six-year proposal.

Do we have our mystery team? - Yardbarker

wow ... I am speechless ... our catchers can now hit .200 and nobody will care.

Great offense and great defense ... I'm babbling ... going to be tough to sleep.

Have a whack. I have been since Tuesday morning as the Patriots dismantled the Jets. This week has been a beauty thus far.

How are the Bruins doing? Cause I'd like to see a sweep of championships.

And now i hear people complaining on eei about this, that the sox aren't spending their money correctly......Typical Red Sox fans.

If Theo could unload Dice-K he might have done it ... we have 5 starters already and 2 of them are highly paid.

We definitely will have a sick lineup, the too lefty argument isn't as big deal as people make it seem. I was reading an article on it the other day, and apparently Gonzalez, Crawford, and Ellsbury all hit equally well against lefties and righties. So it's not like we signed two more lefties who can't hit righties.
