This is from Dec. 2, so he now has 6 with the pick of sanchez against braylon

Patriots CB Devin McCourty: Only three players in the league have more interceptions than Devin McCourty, the rookie from Rutgers, whose five are the most by a Patriots first-year player since Maurice Hurst in 1989, and tied for the second-most in team history. All five of McCourty’s interceptions have come since Week 7, tying him with Asante Samuel and DeAngelo Hall, both former Pro Bowlers, for the NFL lead over that span. No one has been better at picking off deep passes than McCourty, who leads all players with five interceptions on passes thrown more than 15 yards down the field.

I think this is further proof that McCourty is already a shutdown corner. I heard some insane statistic where he is second in the league in passes defensed (19 after Monday's game).

It's true. You should check out his stats on NFL.com. He is among the leaders in most categories, and he's a solid special teamer too.

It's absolutely scary to think of what he's going to be like in a year or two. You think he's good now? Wait.

I love that guy. As much time as I waste pondering draft possibilities, nothing delights me more than when the Pats surprise me. I was sure we didn't need a corner (clearly incorrect), and when I heard McCourty's name called, I knew that meant he must have been something special simply because I knew nothing about him. I felt the same way when they drafted Vollmer.

McCourty has been everything you could possibly ask of a rookie. Here's hoping this is just the beginning.

Wow, another great CB that will leave the pats for a big contract.

Its the same song all over again.

He is on his rookie contract, so regardless he will be here for a while.

I also think that this offseason proved that the Patriots will pay for their players (Brady, Wilfork, Bodden come to mind).

McCourty Watch.

Seeing as though Jets fans like to constantly remind us of Darrelle Revis, here's the comparative rookie seasons to date (according to NFL.com).

Darrelle Revis rookie season - 16(16) games 87 tackles 74 total 13 assisted 17 Pdef 3 int 20 yards 19 lng 1 Ffum

Devin McCourty rookie season - 12(16) games 64 tackles 55 total 9 assisted 13 Pdef 6 int 110 yards 50 lng 0 Ffum

Earlier in the season McCourty had great coverage several times, but would give up the completion because he didn't turn to look for the ball. Sometime around the Ravens or Chargers game he started adding that part to his game and blossomed quickly. He's way past Ty Law's development as a rookie in 1995. He's definitely a shutdown CB already and just a rookie. What's even better is that he's also great in supporting the run D.

Regards,
Chris

How hard is that adjustment (turning your head in coverage) to make? Some of our older CBs still have yet to be able to make that adjustment. Its amazing how fast this kid learns.

He is playing well and I just want people to never forget or loose sight of the obvious that he is a rookie. If he throws a stinker, I hope the reaction will not be OTT.

Anyone remember when he practically flipped Ricky Williams in the Dolphins game on 3rd and 1 (maybe 4th and 1, can't remember)?

Hernandez, Gronkowski, Mesko and McCourty have already outperformed the wildest expectations I had for them at the beginning of the season.

I believe it was against the Ravens when he got called for pass interference, against Heap if I'm not mistaken. Later on in the second half, similar type of route, might have even been to Heap again, and he turned his head around in time to get vertical and knock the pass down.

McCourty already has 19 passes defended, not 13.

I love this kid..getting better and better

Teams are going to start throwing away from him and his stats will go down but he is very impressive. He is the most athletically gifted of all the Patriots and is a great learner with a great coach.

NFL.com has him listed at 13. If the true number is 19 then more power to him. It enforces that he's having some kind of rookie season.

He's now credited with 19 PDs (tied for 4th) and 6 INTs (tied for 2nd):

NFL Stats: by Player Position

After only 12 games he's already blown away Revis's full rookie year numbers. And as Belichick likes to say, he still has room for improvement :D
