Urban Meyer has stunningly resigned as coach at the University of Florida for the second time, FOX Sports Florida and Gator Zone have learned.

Meyer stepped down as coach one year ago, saying health problems had forced him to re-evaluate his lifestyle, only to return a few months later. Florida finished 7-5 under Meyer this season, including a disappointing 4-4 in SEC play.

MORE DETAILS TO COME

Destination Denver?

It's a day of mourning for all Gator fans. :(

He's not going anywhere except home anytime soon.

So last year we drafted 3 players of Florida's team.. This year 3 players off the Alabama squad?

Yeah... bad ticker, and he thought he could delegate more authority to assistants and have less stress, but after going 7-5 that is not the case.

Word is Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen (former UF asst.) will be hired before the week is over

Re: OT: Meyer steps down at Florida

Urban Meyer steps down as Florida Gators head coach

This is rather interesting, with McDaniels gone could Meyer be setting himself up for the job at Denver? If so Tebow is bound to stay and Orton is trade bait.

Schefter tweeted that he taklked to someone in the know and he was told "No Way".

There are now 3 teams that have head coaching openings that must interview minority Candidates in the off-season. Dallas, Minnesota, and Denver. John Fox is on the Hot Seat in Carolina. Del Rio is on the hot seat in Jacksonville. So, there will be plenty of openings for Meyer... Where the best one is, well, that is another story.

Doesn't he have health probklems?

Re: OT: Meyer steps down at Florida

Meyer has a bad ticker that has been induced by stress from all the time he put into the job at Florida. He's not going anywhere except for home to be with his family.

Thanks for the memories, Urban. You will be missed. :(

Could he become a consultant for the Patriots? Maybe with regards to scouting college talent and gameplanning? It seems less stressful...

If he wants to be a consultant, I bet the Pats would scoop him up in a heartbeat.

He's probably already somewhat of a consultant in some regard to BB, considering how good of friends they are. I can't see him taking his family to New England, though. He's said many times that they love Florida and will continue to live here long term. And, again, he's stepping down to spend more time with his family. He's not going back to work anytime soon.

LOL i bet Bill and Urban have a nice cold beer and listen to some bon jovi as they laugh about how they tricked mcdaniels into trading away their best qb and the next year trading a 2nd 3rd and a 4th for tebow.

FWIW, according to Meyer himself, he does not have cardiac problems, but was suffering from esophageal spasms.

Ehhh... I'm not buying it. To us an anology, Mullen is a safety net. He's a fallback position if they can't get one of the guys they really want.

Ehhh... I might be nieve, but I really do think this is a family decision. I think he decided that he couldn't be an effective coach and an effective dad at the same time.

Couldn't you be a consultant long-distance. I used to live in Gainesville, so I know for a fact that they have phones, an airport, and even the internet these days. :)

After reading this I think there could be a chance that he could become part of the Patriot family.
