"You drink other cold drinks in the winter. Why not try Lipton iced tea?"

Rest in peace Dandy!

Too young to remember your playing days, but I loved you on MNF!

I hope they do a nice tribute tonight before the broadcast. Dandy Don was great. RIP.

"Turn Out The Lights,The Parties Over"...literally :(

Great Song,Great Announcer - You will be missed

R.I.P. Dandy

It was the heyday of MNF. He will always be a great memory of my youth, Cosell, Meredith and Gifford. The best MNF trio ever. RIP Dandy Don, way too young to pass away.

Good QB in his day, IIRC he was the 'other' QB in the Ice Bowl game. RIP Danderoo.

Yeah, I remember him well from his playing days, but even better from his MNF gig. I remember his stunned face when Cosell announced that John Lennon had been killed in New York City. That trio was really good, and was a joy to listen to while watching the game. All three had distinctive voices and approaches to the game, much more so than a lot of what we get with today's crews.

RIP Dandy Don.

Meredith was a perfect counterpoint to Cosell and.Gifford, He was always about football being fun and always had something funny to say. My favorite was during a game in he early 70s, a MNF game was a blowout and a lot of the fans had left the stadium. The camera was panning across the seats and settled in on one guy sitting alone and sleeping. The camera zooms in for a close-up and then the guy open his eyes and sees the camera and gives a middle finger salute. As Cosell and Gifford sat there speechless, Don says"All right! He says we're number one." RIP Dandy Don.

I used to love the way he gave Cosell sh!t on the air!

RIP, Don Meredith.

Part of the greatest of all sportscasting trios, Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and "Dandy Don Meredith"...I am amazed at how many of my memories of Monday nights for so many years were formed by the at times acerbic banter and downright disagreement among those three...it was a simpler age when Cosell and Meredith would drink ****tails through the broadcast (Meredith once saying, at a game in Denver, that he was "a mile high." They were a constant of life in an age before cable and 24/7 sports news.

Turn out the lights, Don. But, it was a great Party.

Thank you.

Imagine how great that crew would've been had Keith Jackson, the PBP guy during the first season of MNF,
never been replaced by the bland California/NYG jock Gifford.

One of the benefits of my brother & I getting our own TV as kids, besides the ability to watch the Bruins on TV38, was the ability to sneak in a few minutes or so of MNF before we had to shut it off for the night. Cosell - the New Yorker we loved to hate - and Meredith - the man with whom we would love to watch a game in a pub - made MNF the best weekly must-see event in sports history. If there had been a Saturday Night Football, the party would have been even greater.

At the end of a tribute segment on Total Access after the game, Meredith spoke of there being only 2 books in his home while he was young: the Bible & another book from which he quoted some lines. I forget the name of the book & most of the lines; it was in a words-to-live-by style that I found to be of a depth which I had not previously heard in him.

I'm sad to say that we'll probably never see the likes of Dandy Don in the broadcast booth again.
