Wow... Does that trade look bad for Carolina righht now.

looks pretty good for Oakland though :/.

Seymour's 2009 season wasn't worth a 1st. That's all the Pats lost, since they weren't going to resign him.

Who cares? The 27th pick worked just fine for us this year. Maybe there's another mid-late 1st round gem next year.

Yep, We practically have another 1st rounder with that Carolina pick. A lot of 1st round talent could slip to that pick.

maybe he stops ray rice from turning into jim brown for one game, we'll never know.

Why not? Oakland did. We could sure use him.

32 and 33.. I like the sounds of that. ;)

Why would you think that, considering he hasn't made that kind of impact for Oakland.

Oakland is 23rd in rush defense this season, giving up 124 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.

Oakland was 29th in rush defense last season, giving up 156 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.

What makes you think he would make that big a different for NE if he wasn't able to for Oakland? Seymour may be a good player, but it is hard to believe he would make up the 19 points the Pats lost to the Ravens by in the playoffs all by himself.

Oakland used the franchise tag to keep him, paying him $12.4M this season. The Pats used the franchise tag on Wilfork, a younger player.

1.) Different teams, different statistical results

2.) You obviously haven't been watching the Raiders.

I have seen them several times. Seymour is a good player, but he wouldn't have made the difference last year. I'm not sure how you could make that argument.

In the end, you can't keep everyone. The Pats kept Brady and Wilfork at significant cost. Seymour was a player they would have trouble keeping, so they figured they give up on him a year early but get real value (1st round pick) back. The team has been in transition, so the long-term value made it worthwhile. I wasn't crazy about the move at the time, but hindsight has made it look much better.

Hopefully they can now keep Mankins, who is a younger player who makes sense to keep.

we can draft a player with the Raiders pick.

Then we trade for a 2011 2nd and a 2012 1st with each of those ...

3 first rounders in 2012 .... could be an easy guess perhaps? :D:D:D

by 2022 we could own the whole first round! lets ****in' Do it! hold on tom and bill!

we cant put a face on the raiders pick, only a number value.

Seymour changed the raiders defense this year and i dont know what was wrong with him in 2009, but if he played for us in 2009 like hes played for the raiders in 2010, we might have had a bye week instead of having to play the ravens. who knows. we never will.

When we got the draft pick alot of people thought it was great, a guaranteed top 5 pick! well it isnt going to be and all im saying is you still havent replaced the hole that seymour left and that pick is looking alot more like a 12-20 pick these days.

just so we are on the same page, it is common for a draft pick trade to be discounted one round for ever year it is removed from the date of the deal.

The Patriots traded Sey for a pick 2 full season removed, so I'd say its more like a 3rd round pick.

Unless you think that Belichick and Patricia can hold up that piece of paper that says "2012 pick" from the sideline to instantly stop the play when Peyton Hillis (2011) or Ray Rice (2010) scream through the d-line on a 30 yard rush.

I live in the eternal hope that one year the Patriots will own picks 1 through 32 in a single season. :p

Umm, no. Since we can't go back in your time, your choices are treating the September 2009 trade like a 2011 1 or a 2010 2.

That pick should end up being a starting player for them, if everything goes right, for several years starting in 2012. They balanced that against a year worth of Seymour.

Seymour is a good player and would have made a difference last year. He just wouldn't have made enough difference.
