Couldn't sleep last night and my thoughts turned to the big game Monday night. I would like some opinions from the board on these points.

1. Tom Brady has had trouble with the Ryan's brothers' defenses. With the Jets it's even tougher because of the talent. They can play man to man on the outside and then the rest of the D mills about so Tom can't figure out pre-snap what they are going to do. Ravens, Jets and now the Browns have given him fits. Can he figure it out like Peyton did last year in the playoffs? Peyton got better as that game wore on. Tom seems to get worse like in game 1 this year.

2. Jets running game. Still one of the best in the league. Pats missing Ty Warren, Mike Wright and Pryor. Can they shut the run down? Can they stop a 1-2 punch of Greene and a vengeful LdT. I realize the game plan against Detroit was to stop the pass but they sure gave up some yards last week on the ground. If they need to bring a safety up to stop the run doesn't that leave Arrington 1 on 1 with Edwards?? Which leads to the next concern.

3. Our smurf corners against 2 excellent wide-outs. Edwards made Butler his beatch in week 2. Will Arrington have a better time on Monday? Can McCourty defend the big play?

4. The elephant in the room that NOBODY on this board has addressed yet. Our lack of a kicker that can boom it into the EZ. The Pats are kicking to the 5 or so and letting the return team get some steam before getting down there to make a play. I see this as an issue with Cromartie returning punts. Can they contain him? Can the kicker be counted on to make a FG longer than 30-yards in a tight game? I have been unimpressed with Graham and the ST's the past several weeks.

Anyway I am not trying to be a negative nanny year, but thought I would throw out what is worrying me about this game. Comments constructive or otherwise are welcome.

Go Pats!

The Jets' running game is not one of the best in the league. Over the last month/month and a half, it really hasn't been much better than the Pats. Yes, they are statistically the #2 running team in the league, but that is because of their really strong start. The first month or so, Tomlinson looked like Tomlinson circa 2006. The last month or month and a half, he has looked like the Tomlinson of the last two years in San Deigo. Shonn Greene has looked like the immensly average RB he was during the regular season last year rather than the stud in the playoffs.

As for the Jets' passing game, they have been very Jeckyl and Hyde. They play like crap for three quarters and then turn it on at the end of the game. It all depends which Jets' passing offense.

The Pats' elephant in the room at kicker is a far better option than the Jets' elephant in the room at kicker. As much as Graham is a downgrade from Gostkowski. I'd take him over Nick Folk any day.

As for Brady vs. Ryan defenses, I don't know if we really have much of a sample size to get a good reading. We are talking something like 5 games. Brady did have a great game vs. Rob Ryan in 2005.

Is this a game we shouldn't bother watching since we know we're going to lose?

LOL

No headed to the game myself. Everyone should watch this one. I did admit I was wrong about the SD game.

Brady had a great 2nd game last year vs the Jets. The difference between his good games and bad games vs the Ryan Jets was not having Welker last year and having a concussed Welker this year and an over-reliance on Welker. You make it sound as if his career has been stifled by the Ryans when he never lost a game to either of them before last year.
Dont buy the hype.

Jets running game has not been that good, and how we defended the run vs the Lions in the nickel won't really apply here.
3. Our smurf corners against 2 excellent wide-outs. Edwards made Butler his beatch in week 2. Will Arrington have a better time on Monday? Can McCourty defend the big play?
Smurf corners? What season are you talking about? Excellent wide outs? The Jets? Really? We have faced better WRs in most of our games.
Braylon Edwards caught 5 passes for 45 yards against us. By your estimation every corner in the NFL is the beatch of every WR.
Why would you question McCourty defending the big play when he pretty much hasnt allowed one all year?
Sounds like you are creaitng a concern then plugging in names.

Why would the KO length have to do with punt returns?
Graham has been a good NFL K for years of course he can make FG over 30 yds. Relax. What have our s/t teams done for several weeks to worry you? They have been fine.

... I did admit I was wrong about the SD game.

But still create a seperate thread? :)

Don't get me wrong, by all means feel free to create as many threads as you want because Ian doesn't cap us guests from creating threads.

It struck me as a tad amusing that you created a similar thread before the SD game and later realized that your insecurities on our team were proven wrong, and yet contine on the same path even though there are a couple of threads that discuss today's game.

i think the pats defense will be what it is. its not going to be any different .ton of yards, will rely on couple of key plays to get stops.Hopefully they shut the run first. The offense has to be upto it to take advantage. The jets D have not allowed a lot of pts to good offenses e.g GB,Houston so this will be a challenge. Even the 2nd game last yr at foxboro, our offense didnt play all that well in the 2nd half.

Overall, the young coaching staff of the pats needs to make adjustments on the fly. Reiss pointed this out after week 2 that the jets contiously adjusted during the game quickly but the pats werent able to. Dont know how accurate he was but its something to look out for.

Are you the thread police? If you have an issue why don't you PM me and explain the do and dont's for this forum. Or send me a link if you prefer.

Why don't you get back to your day job sir and let us insecure fans be?

Smurf corners? You realize the average corner in the NFL is about 5'11.. right?

Nope.

If my intent was to ask you to shut up, I would have been direct and sarcastic. And if I had an issue with your thread, I would have flagged it for the mods to PM you explaining the dos/donts.

Irrespective of whether I have a job or not, I wouldn't be that interested in holding your hand and educating you on the decorums of this board. (Well, if you are a good looking lady, maybe...;)).

My response was purely an observation and hence included a smiley. And I thought I asked you not to take it the wrong way.

Edit - I cannot wait for the game to begin and so am reading every frigging thread - even on Ben Watson for heaven's sake!!

Its cold out kids..Sanchez has atleast 2 INTS today.

My concern is this defense! They have to be physical tonight on the d-line and do well on pass coverage.Everyone here in new york is talking about how awful our pass defense is.Silence the critics and play aggresive on defense.

I'm worried about the DL injuries. If this is like the Baltimore game earlier this year, it's going to be tough to make stops at the end without that depth. May need another vintage Brady performance, luckily that's what we've been getting the past 3 weeks.

I have a feeling that we'll destroy the Jets. It won't be close by halftime.

Brady did fine in the 2nd game last year. Game 1 last year, he was missing Welker and still getting his mojo back from injury. In the game earlier this year, Brady had a QB rating of 120 when throwing to players that will take the field tonite. All 3 turnovers were the result of Moss infatuation.

2. Jets running game. Still one of the best in the league. Pats missing Ty Warren, Mike Wright and Pryor. Can they shut the run down? Can they stop a 1-2 punch of Greene and a vengeful LdT. LdT hasn't hit 4.0 ypc in 2 months. Greene has been slightly better, but over that same period his long run has been 12 yds. Woody has a bad wheel and Slauson hasn't been exceptional (OK, but not great). If the Jets win this game on the ground, the Pats should be very disappointed.

3. Our smurf corners against 2 excellent wide-outs. Edwards made Butler his beatch in week 2. Will Arrington have a better time on Monday? Can McCourty defend the big play?

Don't think the deep ball will be much of a factor for either side. Brady may pick his spots but they will be few and far between. The wind and cold should make the Jets think twice about having the San-grenade throw his high-arching deep ball unless there is a busted coverage.

Special teams is always a huge factor in games between comparable teams...particularly in cold/wind. The teams are fairly equal with the specialists (Folk doesn't boom the ball either) so it will fall to the return and coverage teams to make plays.

In addition to the Jets not having their regular returner (he isn't explosive anyway and they have other guys with solid hands), the coverage teams may feel the loss of Leonard the most. The Jets top tacklers are their backup safeties (Smith and Ihedigbo). With them getting more extensive snaps with the regular defense, it may affect their ability in the kicking game. Again, I'm inclined to think they will be OK, but it is something to watch.

Your concerns about the game?

Your either a coach, or a gambler. Otherwise, you have no reason to be concerned. Neither your livelihood or bank account are at stake here.

Just go enjoy the game. It should be a good one with two of the best teams in football locking horns. As a fan, be excited and hopeful that your team will win, just as you are every week. But also be understanding that they are facing a very good team and anything can happen.

Let's let Bill, Tommy and the boys "worry" about the game. As fan, lets embrace the fact that here we are in week 12 and once again, we're in the discussion as of the best teams in football. :)

have the jets been blown out in any game since rex ryan's tenure ? not very sure. the foxboro game last yr maybe but that was sanchize gifting the game early. this is going to be a close game.

the lions had great sucess running on us but deadrick didnt play and our D line wasthin. hopefully both brace and deadrick are active tonite.

Depends on your definition of what a "blow out" is. :D

Not sure why so many people have their panties in a bunch over your points here.....I think for most part they are valid concerns.....esp graham's inability to kick into endzone....gives every opponent starting field position at 30 yd line at least.....CB's...other than mccourty, don't have a ton of confidence in the others....and you are right, Edwards got 2 tds and 2 pt conversion off of butler last game...and he is 6'5 and tough to cover....not overly concerned abt their run game..:.and tom Brady and BB will have a gd game plan cooked up!! Just go and enjoy the game Denver ......and GO PATS!!
