If NT Kris Jenkins was in the Middle of that Jets Defense i would be worried. We run it pretty well with that UDFA Backfield of BGE and Woodhead. Everbody thinks Brady is going to chuck it but since Logan Mankins have been back our RB's have had some serious holes to run through. I say the Pats throw us a curve and establish the run and Throw off PlayAction. Brady is next to impossible to beat if he has a running game the D has to account for.

I hope your right, Brady really cant be stopped when we run it well. Although snow often makes it difficult to run because the linemen dont have footing and cant generate surge. We will see what happens.

Nothing exotic ... the way to beat the Jet's is to play a sound balanced game and wait for Sanchez to make mistakes. If he does we win by a few TD's and if he doesn't it will be 7 points or less as we go to 10-2.

Apparently the Patriots weren't supposed to be able to run on the Steelers either? What were the stats from that game as a memory refresher?

I think we'll be able to run on them, but I don't think the game plan will revolve around it. The game plan will revolve around Brady and the short, quick passing game. IMO, we'll run it like we did against the Steelers: just enough to be effective and keep the defense honest.

The Patriots ran on the Steelers after Brady completely dismantled that team and secured the win. If you are throwing the football as effectively as he was that day you damn well should be able to run the ball. If the same happens against the Jets, it'll be because Tom Brady won you the game and opened up the defense for the rushing attack.

I'll repeat. Anyone who thinks this team can come out actively trying to run on the Jets and succeeding is nuts. Unless Brady is ripping their secondary to shreds and opening up huge holes for the running backs, we should use the running game sparingly and mostly out of passing formations to give the offense some semblance of a balance. I've yet to see this team just line up and pound the ball from the get go when the passing game isn't destroying the opposition.

Oh, and 24 rushes for 103 yards isn't exactly setting the world on fire. It's a good performance against the Steelers, but if that's the best example you can come up with, it just further illustrates my point.

Tom Brady has been in this position before, the game wont be won by his hand and his hand only... The pressure isnt on him, UNLESS we cant run the ball.

How productive our running game is what will change this game into a blowout win or a close win. We blew out the steelers because our run game was able successfully get first downs consistently and ran out the clock.

We can pass all day, but if our ground game isnt there, the jets will be in the ball game until the end.

The firs post in this thread is advocating that the Patriots actively try to run on the Jets as the primary form of gaining yardage on offense. I merely stated that if we take this approach it would be extremely difficult for us to move the ball effectively. You really think that the Steelers game is a good example of the Patriots coming out intent on pounding the ball like the OP suggests? If so, I'm sorry, but you are clearly misremembering what happened in that game.

The only way we can run effectively against a defensive front as good as the Jets' is if we can open it up through the passing game. The Steelers game is living proof of that, and so is the Vikings game and the Lions game, for that matter. As soon as the passing game started clicking, we all of a sudden started running the ball. I can't remember a single time when we came out intent on running the football right out of the gate and managed to get it done. And that's not even taking into account the fact that a lot of the yardage we get on the ground comes when running out of passing formations.

Bottom line: this Patriots team has yet to show they can just line up and run on anybody (except for maybe the Colts), I don't see how it would benefit them to try this out on a stout Jets' defense.

The Colts, Steelers, AND the Vikings, we ran the ball and dominated... So when you can do this against arguably three top 10 defensive fronts, that makes your statement false.
