Devin Mccourty overall a top 10 cb in the nfl

I do apologize as I was one of the people swearing at the T.V when the guy was drafted. Hell, I will say my exact words and man up to them. :D

"WTF!!!! A CB??? When the best WR in the whole F-ing draft is on the board? A CB!!! Bodden and Butler not good enough??
10 seconds later
"Who the hell is Mccourty? O great he's a special teams demon. KYLE WILSON WAS ON THE BOARD IF YOU WANTED A CB!!"
10 minutes later
"O great the Jets get the shutdown CB, good job Pats."

I am so glad I am just a fan and that is it. :)

One thing I don't get is people saying a CB could be a need for the draft. Mccourty and Bodden will be one of the best duos in the NFL, and Arrington/Butler is good depth.

I read on ESPN's site that McCourty leads the league in INTs of passes thrown over 15 yards. This is good because Sanchez is 6th in the league in pass attempts over 21 yards and he likes to throw to his right. It is a good match up for the Pats.

When it comes to drawing up a passing strategy to win Monday night, the New York Jets would be wise to keep it short and simple. Mark Sanchez likes to throw deep. Only five quarterbacks have thrown more passes 21 yards or deeper than Sanchez has. But ESPN Stats & Information notes the New England Patriots' pass defense has been suspect on throws shorter than 15 yards. Opponents are posting a 98.9 passer rating, ranking the Patriots 27th in the league. But on passes 15 yards or longer the Patriots rank 12th in allowing a 74.4 passer rating. Patriots rookie cornerback Devin McCourty has a league-high five interceptions on throws that travel at least 15 yards.

Seriously?

He's played well but he's a rookie! How about he strings together a couple outstanding seasons before you start comparing him to the best in the league

Nobody was comparing him to the best in the league (Nnamdi Asomugha) he was being compared to Revis.

I think Revis has overtaken Nnamdi. But the fact that we're even discussing our rookie CB with the likes of either of those names is still very unreal to me.

I still think Revis is the gold standard, and Devin may be ahead of him as a rookie or may not be, I've read all sorts of different things. It doesn't matter how far ahead or behind he is in year 1 though, but how he continues to progress and improve. He has a long way to go and player growth isn't guaranteed. Then again, a lot of personnel guys say the biggest jump is between year 1 and year 2, so imagine how good he could be?

I love how physical McCourty is, how great he is in run support, and how he has been amazing on deep passes. He still lets receivers get a lot of easy catches on short routes, probably BB's compromise for the rookie so he doesn't get burned on double-moves. But once he starts to work all of that out, the sky is truly the limit for him.

Ever heard of Darrelle Revis or a players agent?

Mcourty is exceeding expectations by a freakin mile. If this pace continues he will be mentioned as one of the best in the NFL.

Thus far, Mcourty is making Revis's rookie season look lame.

How exactly does it make Revis's season look lame?

I think McCourty has been pretty good so far but he is also on the one of, if not the worst, pass defenses in the NFL.

McCourty also doesn't have the advantage of a great pressure scheme. Hell, he doesn't have any pressure scheme in front of him. He plays in zone, he plays in man, he plays in a scheme that is heavily reliant upon polymorphic coverages. To be able to handle all of that as a rookie is incredible. Credit to Coach Schiano for getting this cat ready to play.

Oh yeah, and he is going to be *much* better than Revis.

I hope you're not seriously using stats to compare Cornerbacks...

It's actually a fairly accurate comparison. Both played in identical schemes as rookies, both had little help up front. The difference is that Revis was tested early and often with not that much to show for it. McCourty is rarely thrown at and is doing significantly more with less opportunity.

last year Revis had one of, if not the greatest, single season any CB has ever had. I think being *much* better would take super powers.

I really don't understand why people keep saying Revis had the best CB season of all time last year. Woodson won DPOY and he's another CB in the league.

Would love to see more stats than just int's and tackles before we can see how much better his season actually is.

Also, why throw at McCourty when the rest of the pass defense is so bad? ;)

I kid, not really, but I do think McCourty looks very good out there although PFF has him listed behind Joe Haden for rookie CBs this year.

I laughed out loud at this

Partially because it's true

Why take a chance on a guy that seems pretty decent when you've got a sure thing somewhere else on the field

Of course no one will read this article because any NY paper is seen as blasphemy here but the information was taken from the objective football outsiders.

It sums up why his season was so great. As for the DPOY, because Revis didn't have a lot of sacks or FF the voters shunned him. Although it was sweet justice that Woodson's D gave up more TDs in its final game than Revis did all year.

Just How Good Was Revis Last Year? - NYTimes.com

Yeah, i was going to say the same as this. The voters just looked at FF and INT and went "Woodson must be better!!!" even though his man cover skills were shown to be missing when he went up against Larry Fitz in the playoffs.

This is completely accurate from a tactical standpoint.

McCourty is quicky developing a reputation as a guy who does a nice job in man coverage and will make plays on the ball on a consistent basis.

With that said, that may/may not be a shutdown corner but it sure as heck isn't a guy you pick on.

Arrington/Butler, CB du jour is a guy you pick on.

Id pick Revis and V. Davis before McCourty but if I had to pick a young cb to keep for 10 years he would be up there.

McCourty looks like the real deal....you can just tell when you watch the way he runs with the receiver, and reacts to the ball...Looks to be good corner looking forward

As far as Revis...according to many probably had one of greatest seasons of any CB ever in NFL including Deion....last year...and when healthy this year has shut guys down again...

McCourty looks good...not sure he'll be as good as Revis...not sure anyone will be in coverage...

It's clear as day that McCourty's rookie season is projected to be better than Revis' rookie season. Some touchy Jets haven't grasped that concept yet.

It must pain them to know that they have a stud CB only for the Patriots to apparently trump them and look likely to have a better stud CB in the playground.

LOL @ Jets. LOL LOL LOL.

No mention of Brandon Flowers anywhere? He's been just about the best there is this year.

So, McCourty is this year's Vollmer? Hernandez will be disappointed.
