Is Bears/Pats a hotly anticipated match-up?

As you may recall a couple weeks ago I was making plans to go to the Pats game in Detroit. When that fell through I thought about going to the game in Chicago; however when I looked at ticket prices online they were starting at $130. For the sake of argument I looked again this week and found the same thing.

Funny thing is, for comparison I looked at prices for the Packer game in Detroit and found tickets for that one starting at $50... but Packer games are supposed to be the ones you can never get tickets to without first taking out a second mortgage.

So is it just because the Pats and Bears are doing so well this year? I haven't really heard any talk about this one yet.

Man, when I wanted to go to see the Pats play in Chicago 10 years ago, my friend found us for tickets for $100 total (i.e. $25 each, but we had to buy all four.)

Let's see how the Jets game pans out, but this will be a huge matchup for the Pats. Seeing how the game is outside the division it "may" not be as important to win (though I want the pats to win out and claim the #1 seed)

Ahaha! I do remember Brady saying on his time off he made some notes on Chicago first and then got into the Jets. Probably a good thing not to OVER game-plan the Jets.

This has nothing to do with the team's game plan process, I'm just trying to figure out why tickets are so expensive for a game like this - no "returning" players or coaches, etc.

Personally I'm kinda glad this gave me an excuse not to go. When I was there in 2000, I found out that what they say about the "lake-effect wind" is true - it was freakin' FREEZING in that place. And I had just been to a game at Lambeau a couple weeks before, so I know about cold-weather games.

I'm going to the Chicago game and all the tickets I looked at were expensive. (And DO NOT buy any tickets off craigslist because all the ones I saw were scams).

The cheapest ones I could find that weren't completely horrible seats were for $210 a piece.

I was able to go to the Cleveland game on the 50 yard line in nose bleed seats for $70 a piece.

I would guess they are expensive because Chicago is doing well.

As far as I know, the game was moved from 1:00 to 4:15 and, if both teams keep winning, it has the ability to be flexed. I'd say that it's pretty hotly anticipated.

I agree with InRodWeRust, I think it's because both teams are playing well; as a result you have two sets of fans looking to buy and neither is looking to sell.

The Pats at Bears are going for more than the Jets at Bears right now, but I think that is because of the date of the Jets game: December 26th.

As for the Packers playing in Detroit, my guess is that any Lions tickets are going to be inexpensive until they start winning more. Even when they do sellout it's usually just before the blackout deadline; with box office tickets available it lowers demand (and price) of tickets being resold.


Best scenario of course is a Pats win, putting Chicago in desperation & extra motivation mode for their game against the Jets.

Actually it's the Bears that are facing a classic trap game in facing Detroit this week. There's a bit of a buzz of anticipation to see the Pats come into town next week.
In fact, in the Chicago Tribune's second page there was a picture of the latest Sports Illustrated cover with Michael Vick on it, who the Bears just happened to roll over this week. The author of the article was hoping that SI would run another picture of Tom Brady for next week.

I know. I almost hit cancel but I figured I'd stir up the natives for the hell of it.

To stay on course, I do think the Pats/Bears game is a marque matchup. Bears are a good team and have a good defense. It'll be a nice test.

Definitely a big game. I don't know who Chicago plays this week but seems like a battle of 9-3 teams at the worst, possibly 10-2 @ 9-3. That's a marquis matchup, maybe even moreso than the Packers game everyone is talking about.

The Bears will be playing Detroit who will be having their 3rd string QB starting as Hill got hurt.
I envision a Bears victory, easily.
The game next week will be big one here in Chicagoland.

It's a hotly anticipated match-up in my circle of friends, which contains a mix of Pats fans and Bears fans. There are a couple of people here and there that are fans of other teams, but it's mostly Pats & Bears. Sadly, I'll be out of town next weekend so won't be able to join in the festivities that are being planned!

The Bears game does concern me a lot. On one hand Brady typically shreds tampa-2 defenses, but it seems the way to beat the Bears this year is to get a lot of pressure on the QB. Their O-line is *awful* but the same is true of the Pats pass rush. I dunno.

This is one reason why I don't like the notion that this MNF game is for all the marbles. Both teams have tough games coming up.
