Looks like we have an early start to this week's predictions from the media. Gary Myers of the New York Daily News is already declaring the Jets will win Monday; I guess he'll spend the rest of the week working on columns about how the Jets won.

Jets will beat Patriots Monday to seize control of AFC East, prove they're ready for Super Bowl run

This is the Jets' time. They will successfully execute a hostile takeover of the AFC East in Foxborough on Monday night in the most important regular-season game in their 51-year history.

They were built to win now. Right now.

Bill Belichick is winning big with a team in transition.

It's 9-2 vs. 9-2.

After Monday night, the Jets will be in first place by themselves. I'm sticking with my prediction of last February that they are going to the Super Bowl this season. And to prove they are ready for the big stage this February, they must win this game.

Gary Myers has been on the jets bandwagon since day one.He writes for the daily news here. Not surprised!

I'll add that guy to my list of people to send angry emails to when the Pats win

the most important regular-season game in their history.

Geez, how many years in a row can they use this line? The Pats are truly in the heads of that entire fanbase.

Sounds fun....

And people claim the Jets fans are the ones with complexes.

Hate to rain on your "media is against us" party, but everything I have seen has the Pats winning. Pretty sure you were favored last time too.

Who wouldn't have been favored after that load of crap game against the Ravens? I mean, your guy runs out of bounds, unforced, on fourth down and short of the 1st, to end the game.

All an act to lower the Patriots guard for week 2. ;)

Does Fitzy count as a member of the media?
He's going with a score of the Pats 24, Jets 20.

Peter Schrager goes with a score of the Patriots 26, Jets 17.
All things seem to come full circle in the NFL, even with the scheduling gods. A week after America was “treated” to a difficult-to-watch Cardinals-49ers snoozefest, we get arguably the biggest game of the season up to now with the Jets traveling to Foxborough. Both teams are coming off uncanny 12-day rests (they both played on Thanksgiving), so look for two very prepared teams, using every trick in their bags. That means Brad Smith reverse plays, Danny Woodhead shovel passes and the occasional fake punt or halfback option. In the end, give me the Patriots at home in an absolute slugfest.

NFL Week 13 lookahead - NFL - Sporting News

In the video Clifton Brown takes the Pats; in the article Vinnie Iyer does the same.
New York Jets at New England Patriots (-3 1/2).
Rex Ryan compared himself to Tom Brady early in the week, and some see plenty of Brady in Mark Sanchez. The actual Brady, however, makes the difference here.
Patriots 21, Jets 17.

NFL Football Picks - Sporting News

Right now it's 4 to 1 in favor of the Pats

Vinnie Iyer: Pats 21-17

Both Florio and Rosenthal pick the Pats and make good points along the way.

Jets at Patriots

Florio’s take: Intentionally or not, the Patriots have developed the perfect offense to attack the Jets’ defense. With pressure coming from anywhere, the Pats can deliver the ball everywhere. Tom Brady currently has a level of determination and motivation rarely witnessed in any level of any sport, and he’s on his way to winning the first NFL MVP award of his Hall of Fame career.

Florio’s pick: Patriots 31, Jets 21.

Rosenthal’s take: This is billed as the biggest game of the year. It’s great theater. But it’s still not going to tell us much, especially if the Patriots win to split the season series. The remaining schedule for both teams is so difficult that it’s easy to see the loser of this game still winning the division. Both teams should make the playoffs, which also takes a bit of pressure off. The Patriots are playing slightly better overall and have the homefield advantage (and 16 straight December home wins), so I’ll take them in a toss up that will be lower scoring than expected.

Rosenthal’s pick: Patriots 20, Jets 17.

He got it in his record-setting 2007 season

Yeah, they forgot to give it to Peyton that year. Remember, he's got the single-season TD record.

What's that?

Tom Brady has it now, you say?

In 2007, you say...

Ohhhhhhh....

So the question is: did Florio really think Brady has not yet won an MVP? Or was that comment purposely made in order to create more web hits and comments? I haven't read the comments there, but I'm guessing the number of comments was large, and at some point it turned to other events that happened to the Pats in that same year (the SB loss, spygate.)

ESPN has some predictions up now:

NFL Picks and Predictions for Week 13 - National Football League - ESPN
8-1 in favor of the Pats on the main "experts" page.
Allen, Golic, Hoge, Mortensen, Schefter and Wickersham take the Pats.
Accuscore and Pigskin Pick'em (espn readers) both go with the Pats.
Schlereth takes the Jets; Jaworski abstains.

NFL Projections and Simulations - National Football League - ESPN
AccuScore: Patriots will grind down Jets - AFC East Blog - ESPN
Their Accuscore has the Pats winning 66% of the time, by an average score of 27.7 to 22.3

Video Games - EA Sports Simulations - ESPN
Their Madden simulation has the Pats winning 31-24.
In a game that's decided by the final score, Tom Brady outplays Mark Sanchez to give the Patriots the 31-24 win. Brady throws for 274 yards and three touchdowns, including a 4-yard score to Wes Welker with 1:20 left on the clock to help New England climb to 10-2 on the season. Sanchez, on the other hand, throws two touchdowns, but he throws two second-half interceptions that swing the game in the Patriots favor.

Sunday Countdown: Your weekly NFL guide - ESPN
3-1 in favor of the Pats; Ditka, Cris Carter and Tom Jackson go with the Pats, while Keyshawn Johnson goes with the team that drafted him.

NFL Picks Week 13: Patriots, Jets Collide for AFC Supremacy -- NFL FanHouse

OK. Accepted: The Jets are pretty good. But they're also pretty lucky, like winning a game when Ndamukong Suh has to kick an extra point and misses it, and winning another because the Texans forget to cover Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes.

Now they play the Patriots who have: a) Wes Welker to kick extra points if Shayne Graham gets hurt, just as he did when Stephen Gostkowski went down. (One reason Welker is a Patriot is that he kicked an extra point and a field goal for Miami against New England when he played for the Dolphins.)

And b) Bill Belichick, who will not allow his team to forget to cover Edwards and Holmes.

That's probably why the Patriots are favored by three Monday night. The other reason is that the Patriots don't have Randy Moss, which has helped them -- they now simply tailor the offense to Tom Brady's little dinkers to Welker, and run more with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead, whom the Jets made the mistake of releasing.

No, this isn't a sure thing, but ...

Tradition prevails?

The odd thing is that after saying all that Dave Goldberg's prediction is Jets 30, Patriots 20.
