Interesting find - Brady draft bio from 2000

Sorry if this has been posted, but I searched and didn't find anything. I came across this draft bio, written in April of 2000, of Brady. Thought it was too good not to share.

The only things that I have noticed was his throwing motion since coming into the NFL.

In his first couple seasons, his arm strength wasn't the greatest. It looked as though he was putting everything into to every throw. Almost throwing it like a baseball pitcher.

But in 2003, I started to notice his mechanics change as well as his arm strength.

We probably would've gotten rid of Drew recently, assuming Belichick liked him. Have a way different middle class of a team though, because we would've been picking significantly higher for most of the decade.

The Pats made some waves in the 6th round with the selection of Michigan QB Tom Brady. Projected by many as a 3rd rounder, the Pats argued that they could not pass him up in the 6th round due to his "value." The last thing the Pats needed on draft day was a 4th quarterback, but perhaps this pick is not as senseless as it first seemed. Brady does not possess the raw physical tools of a Chad Pennington, Tim Couch, or Peyton Manning, but he has shown a knack for leadership and getting the job done in the big games. Playing with all the pressures associated with a big time program, Brady came up huge last season against Notre Dame, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Alabama going a combined 115 of 165. In the Alabama game alone Brady was 34 of 46 for 369 yards and 4 TD’s. He has also shown proficiency in running the hurry up offense. Should this guy be ahead of Frieze and Bishop on the depth chart? No. Should the Pats carry 4 quarterbacks? No. If Brady can stick on the practice squad and perhaps spend a season in Europe, he could emerge as a solid backup behind Bledsoe after Frieze is gone and Bishop is off playing AA baseball someday. With this pick coming in the 6th round, it can hardly be considered a risky one.

Poor build. Very skinny and narrow. Ended the '99 season weighing 195 pounds and still looks like a rail at 211. Looks a little frail and lacks great physical stature and strength. Can get pushed down more easily than you'd like. Lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush. Lacks a really strong arm. Can't drive the ball down the field and does not throw a really tight spiral. System-type player who can get exposed if he must ad-lib and do things on his own.


All the negatives have been eliminated. He's bigger, awesome arm strength, super tight spiral, sixth sense to avoid rush, and finally, that Tate play ad lib.

Actually I thought it was pretty accurate for the time, he always had the intangibles, he just had to bulk up and work on his arm strength. I remember the off season before the infamous Mo Lewis hit on Bledsoe he was on weei saying how he was spending the off season bulking up and working on his arm strength, Dale Arnold asked him how he did that and he said by strengthening his legs.
It obviously worked, he has a pretty good arm now and has definately put some meat on his bones.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but when I saw the Michigan vs. Alabama highlights where Brady went nuts, you had to be blind not to see the potential there.

I think Brady has proven that wrong in my eyes, the guy has had a 3,4 coordinators in his days in New England. He has been successful in the short passing system (west-coast) and the "bomb every other throw" which reminds me of the 80's chargers. I don't think you set the single season record for TD's in a season and go undefeated in a season if you are a system QB. SO no he isn't a system QB, you can make a bigger argument for Manning that he is a system QB because the man refuses to let Moore retire, i wonder why...

Yeah you are right about that, what im saying though is that you can't say Brady is a system QB because Charlie W and Josh M run two different systems in my opinion. You can watch KC and the Broncos and you can see the difference. I have yet to see what Manning has done in a different system that he is in. It absolutely drives me crazy when i hear the media say Brady has been in the same system, while Manning makes the offense. I'm sorry but that is total B.S because if it is BB's system then why where Bledsoe and Kosar not successful in it?
