On Monday, CB Darrelle Revis didn't know -- or wasn't saying -- how he'd be deployed in the game. Now it wouldn't be a surprise to see him on WR Wes Welker.
Asked to describe Welker, Revis said, "Trouble. Trouble. The guy is very dangerous. Most teams double him in the slot. He's dangerous."

the jets defense is not designed to deal with the pats offense which is why the pats have made it what it is.

2 WR, 2 TE, 1 RB.......and no huddle......they can force pretty much any part of the field to be exposed. their LB's simply can't cover that much space.

as for the other side of the ball, have someone hit tomlinson on every down just like the pats banged on marshall faulk in the SB. put mccourty 1 on 1 on edwards and double holmes when you have to. slow keller off the line.

I still don't think Revis is best suited to line up in the slot and cover a small, quick WR with a lot of moves. Obviously Cromartie isn't hence why Ryan is already talking about putting him on Gronk or Hernandez. That would then leave Coleman, Lowery, or Wilson on Branch which would give the Pats a favorable match up there.

the jets simply need to play straight up and hope their scheme wins out. if they try something different and it does not work, it will be a long day for them.

It doesn't matter who the Jets rotate on Welker and Branch as Gronkowski and Hernandez will punish them.

The moral of the story is that there will be people open on Monday night. "The open man" is going to have a big game. I could see putting Cromartie on Gronkowski, but I would guess that BB could expose something like that by running 2 TE sets with Gronk as a decoy to take Cromartie out of the game, while Hernandez is still lined up with an LB or safety. Maybe? :confused2:

I know I'll probably be yelled down for suggesting it, but could Tate redeem himself this week? I doubt he'll draw the best coverage.

This is not to mention the effect that the Jest coverage will have on their inability to stack the box for the running/screen game out of 3 WR or 2 TE sets.

While Branch is definitely no Moss, I am pretty sure if the Jets put Revis on Welker we have already won a huge pregame battle.

Revis is build and trained to defend the #1 Receivers with their speed and routes, he will be misused on covering welker. Put him on Brnach he will probably be able to mostly take him out of the game 1 on 1 and hope the rest of the giuys make the necessary plays in the middle of the field.

The Jets should stick by what the are good at, which is pressuring brady into fast throws and his receivers into drops. Worked for them and cleveland in both our losses and it gives them their best shot in this one.

In the end they will roll up yards on our defense easily, so when they convert in the redzone and stop brady every other drive it will probably enough.

I want to see Gronk running down the field with Jim Leohanard covering him . I did it in madden and it was funny. Gronk is literally just about a foot taller than him.

I think they will leave Revis on the outside if they put him on the Slot advantage Patriots. I hope the Pats go 3 WR's with Welker in slot...One TE *Gronk* because of his blocking and 1 RB. That way Brady have Blitz protecting with good speed on the outsides.

Except this isn't 2009, and the Jest have not been able to mount an effective pass rush this year without the blitz. Brady does have more trouble with teams that can rush the passer without the blitz, but he can tear apart a blitzing team, especially with the weapons the Pats have now. Woodhead coming out of the backfield on a screen will be a Jet killer if ol' Rexy dials up those blitzes too much.

You have too little faith in our team and too much faith in theirs, I'm afraid. Time to turn off the ESPN.

This is the quandry for the Jets. If they want Revis on Welker, most of Welker's plays are from the slot where Revis is not suited to play. Many of Welker's plays when he is lined up outside are screens and quick slants which also is not where Revis excels. They will be better off doubling Welker with their nickelback and a saftey or LB. Their problem is their nickelbacks aren't great and can get beat often.

I was thinking the same exact thing...Brandon Tate could really put his name on the map in a game like this. He has the speed to keep the Jets honest on the outsides i just don't know about his hands. I really feel like he's the Guy the Jets are going to dare to beat them. I just don't see them accounting much for him because he's somewhat unproven as a WR. As you said "I doubt he'll draw the best coverage". So it's quite obvious he could be singled up until he proves otherwise.

I think the better match-ups for the Jets would be putting Revis on Branch, putting Wilson on Welker and giving him help and using Cromartie on Hernandez or Tate.

That is assuming they are in their base defense. Odds are the Jets will be in a lot of sub packages to deal with the Pats' passing attack. Hence they will have Coleman, Lowery, or Wilson covering Branch which is still a mismatch.

cromartie will be moved around the field depending on situation, but i would take the welker - Revis matchup over any other...i think welker has the best chance of beating Revis's coverage

the problem here is that i think we now have too many weapons on offense, so the results of last game cant really be counted on all that much, however, i see the jets playing a coverage scheme which is what beat us in the 2nd half of the 1st game...

the difference now is that there is branch instead of moss, and branch will find the opening easier in the scheme, also welker is feeling better, and we can trust on hernandez or Gronk downfield more, plus we can run better, AND we have woodhead out of the backfield....
