Espn :Better defensive coach, Belichick or Ryan?

Well Bill has 2SB as a coordinator and 3SB as a head coach. Ryan has'nt accomplished anything other than shoot his mouth off. I don't care about rankings and stats, wins and rings........

Defense does win championships.......

Not anymore. Colts and Saints did not have "stellar" defenses when they won, the Pats didnt either. That whole defense wins games is gone down the drain now, this is a quarterback driven league now.

The Pats defenses were pretty good earlier in the decade. The '03 Pats may be one of the top defenses of all time.

Yeah but it wasn't as good as the Jets defense is now though. yeah, they're defense was better than it is now but we've never really had an "elite" defense like the Jets.

Without a good Qb, your team team will never win

Heres the question that should have been asked: Do you think the PATS would be 9-2 with Rexy at the helm???The answer is an easy one I would think:rocker::rocker::rocker:

Considering BB has five rings, either as a defensive coordinator, or a head coach with excellent defenses, and Rexie has zero, is there really ANY kind of argument here? What a waste of an article (which I say without even bothering to read it).

this is a joke, right?

You can probably cherry pick and get a few championships, but the bottom line is: Championships are won on defense.
In regards to the Saints win, it was won on a 6-pick.
The Colts defense was horrid during most of the year, then for some reason played well. thus, a championship.

yeah but a pick-6 to win the game doesn't mean the Saints had a really good defense, they didnt... they just created turnovers. Kind of like our defense now, not that good on paper but we create turnovers. Colts defense isnt bad of course but its not mentioned with the Steelers, Ravens or Jets is my point.

Defense plays a huge part but is our defense really winning games for us more than the offense?

So you weren't following the Patriots back then. It's either that, or you were too young to remember. I'll take either explanation.

The '03 defense was and is still looked at as one of the top three defenses of all time. The '04 defense was still dominant, even with the massive injuries to the secondary.

Yes, they are. San Diego and Miami come to mind.

The fact is that in the 3 halves of losing football, both the offense and defense sucked.

Besides, if our defense gets zinged for 28 points against Indy, why do the Jets get a free pass for 27 points against Houston?

Don't get me wrong. They are playing well at times and coming up with big plays but the offense still has to score enough to points to keep up with the points given up. Its like the Saints last year... give up alot of yards but make the big play to win the game.

Ummmmm.......The '00 Ravens, '05 Steelers, and '07 Giants defenses say hello.

True but look at my post again skippy, I said football has changed. You backdated 00, 05 and 07. This is a QB driven league now, you don't have to have a awesome defense to win games or Superbowls....

The 2009 Saints says hello back.

Look at our team. Terrible on paper but we make big plays and have the #1 scoring offense in the league in a transition year. Colts can't stop the run for their life but they were in the Superbowl last year.

No sh!t. So 2007 is too far back to argue with your 'groundbreaking' revelation. Newsflash...skippy, Qb's have always been the most important position since the days of Marino, Elway, and Montana. Of course, you probably weren't even an after-though back then. The 2009 Saints only won because of an opportunistic defense as well as the Colts in '06 when that defense ranked near the bottom in the regular season, but stepped up in the playoffs.
