Anyone else shocked Jets are 9-2?

I am for one.

I never expected the jets to have this good of a record at the beginning of the year. And after watching some of games they've played makes it even more surprising they are 9-2. Aside from their last game against the Bengals, they have really stunk! But lucky for them, their opponents have stunk even more. But luck only goes so far I suppose, so they must be pretty good, athough I really don't see it.

I never ever would have imagined them at the top of the NFL 12 weeks into the season. I'm sure they'll say they expected it, as shown by their boasting and attitude prior to the season, but then again they do that every year. Although not to this degree.

If there is a god, the jets will lose the rest of their games. I hate it when *******s (such as Rexy, classy LD, weeping Sanchez, etc) win and are rewarded for basically being loudmouth pricks.

But frankly I'm just as surprised, if not more surprised that the Pats are 9-2.

Well, 9-2 is still 9-2 no matter how they got there. Although they beat the Patriots early on in the season, that was a different Patriots team. Our defense has matured a lot all around and the offense has changed a bit. Moss is gone of course, and the running game is the best it has been all season. We also cant forget about how great Brady has been playing. I just don't see how some can say the Jets are surely the better team.

I had them at 8-8, so this is unexpected. I'll take 9-7 though.

I had the Pats at 7-4 by this point, so I'm also surprised by the Pats being 9-2.

I'm very surprised because I thought all those egos would end up causing problems but they came back well from an opening weekend defeat and have kept it going. I think the credit has to go to Rex Ryan who has kept the heat off his players to a certain extent by mouthing off himself. I think he has already proven himself to be a very smart coach.

I need a shower after praising Ryan, it just doesn't feel right.

A good defense will win some ugly games. There's a lot of flawed teams out there, us being one, and excelling consistently on one side of the ball means just getting it done on the other side.

You couldn't replicate that if you tried 1000 times. 1 minute later they score 14 points, and break the Bengals back. I could find events like this for the past 5 games.

The Jets won by 16. Without that play they would have lost, you are correct.

Anyone can argue luck when you only look at the plays in which your argument receives benefit. For example: The Jets won in miraculous fashion due to the ineptitude of Houston's pass defense in the final minute (re: throw to Edwards at 5 yard line). 'OMG JETS R SO LUCKY R U F'N KIDDIN ME TEXAS'NS R SO STUPID WOWWWW' I could also say that the Patriots beat the Lions solely on the ineptitude of Alphonso Smith. Is that lucky? No, but if the Jets did it I'm sure it would be called as such.

I am not surprised that the Jets have a good record. They put an awful lot into this season by acquiring some "head cases" on the cheap. They are one of the most balanced teams in the entire League and do not have any glaring weaknesses. While they clearly have won some games in the last moments (Detroit, Cleveland, Denver, Houston) as much due to the other teams ineptness as their own brilliance you cannot overlook the fact that the Jets generally controlled many of those games and if not for some last minute failures on their own part would have won easily. The "luck" label is based on timing of events within the game and not on the overall play. Their biggest area of concern continues to be Sanchez who despite considerable improvement is still marginal at best in a League more and more defined by the play of the QB. How he plays the remainder of this year will determine if the Jets make some serious noise this season. Not sure how the Jets deal with the contracts of Holmes, Edwards, Cromartie and others going forward. They went all in this year and coudl be rebuilding again if the new labor agreement constricts their options.

All that said, we still have Brady and I fully expect the Pats to win a close game Monday night.

Shocked? No. It's pretty hard for anything to shock me in the cap/free agent era of the NFL. Was it shocking that the 5--11, 2000 Pats turned around and won the 2001 Season SB? At the time, maybe; but, in retrospect, knowing now what we know about Brady and Belichick, no it wasn't shocking.

The Jets are a couple of plays, Official's calls and a little good luck away from being 6--5. So, while not "shocked," I am for sure surprised that the Jets are 9--2 and I can't figure out whether that string of three straight games in which they turned "near death" experiences into victories means that they are a "team of destiny" or whether it means that they are a marginal team just waiting to be exposed.

As if there isn't enough hype around this week's game already, I actually do think that we will know the answer to that question a week from this morning. If the Pats beat them solidly, I could easily see them losing both to Da Bears and to the Steelers. If they beat the Pats in Foxboro and end TB's 25 straight regulars season home game victory streak, I could see them getting it together for a serious run at going to Dallas.

I thought the Jets might implode after a few losses with the personalities it had, but winning keeps those personalities in check. It has a good defense, so the offense was its big question mark (the opposite scenario for the Pats).

I thought the Jets and Pats would be dueling for the division title, but I figured that would be at 10-6 or 11-5. Both teams have done better than I expected they would.

Not shocked but surprised a little that so many teams have handed them a victory in an improbable fashion. The Jets were always there to benefit from it, so give them credit for being in a situation where they ensured that there was at best a 50-50 chance of winning. It seems like they won every one of those 50-50 situations. So it's like if you flip a coin six times and get six "tails". That would not be shocking, but you'd certainly feel that someone benefitting from all those lucky flips by betting on "tails" ahead of time is very lucky.

You need to take in affect the emotion of the game and not just the numbers. That play was back breaking to an already weak Bengals team. After that happened all 3 phases went down a notch and the Jets took advantage. There's no telling what would of happened if the Bengals got the ball and took the lead their instead.

For the Lions game, you could say the Jets got lucky when the Lions ran a pass play with their 3rd string QB instead of trying to kill the clock with under 2 minutes left and a 3 point lead, you could say the Jets got lucky Peterson pushed LT out of bounds and picked up a 15 yard penalty to put the Jets in field goal range at the end of regulation, you could say the Jets got lucky when they won the toss in OT, you could say the Jets got lucky when Holmes found a crease when the Lions were playing prevent. Folk still had to make those FGs so you're probably right. They earned that game.

I'll do a mea culpable. Didn't expect the Jets to be nearly as good as they are now. I was actually right that both their defense and running game would decline from last year, but I under estimated Sanchez's progress (even if the media is overrating it a bit). I also didn't think they would be mentally tough enough to pull out wins like they have. They have benefitted from a favorable schedule (only three games against teams with winning records where they are 1-2).

We will find what they really are made of this month where they play several playoff contenders, but they have been far better than I have given them credit for thus far.
