Lets assume for a moment that NEP win there next four games (Jets, Bears, Packers, Bills) and enter week 17 having clinched the #1 seed in the AFC.

Lets also assume the Dolphins beat the Bills, Jets and one other team (Lions or Browns) giving them a 9-6 record. Lets also assume the Jets lose to NEP, Fins, and one other team (Pitt or Bears) giving them a 10-5 record.

And this has set up the following situation.

The #5 seed belongs to the AFCN (Ravens or Steelers which ever doesn't win the division) and the #6 seed will be the Jets if the the Jets win or the Dolphins lose.

Could you root for the Dolphins to beat the NEP and the chance to deny the Jets a playoff spot?

To end the consecutive home winning streak just as we go into the playoffs, which happen to go through New England...no. Bad Karma to lose that game.

Mr. [TheGodInAGreyHoodie], what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent [OP] were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this [thread] is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Brady's consecutive starts streak went out the window in 2008, so you can just give him the game off to preserve his consecutive home wins streak and give Hoyer some playing time. Sit Welker and Wilfork too, play Price, and let the chips fall where they will.

Something like that work for you?

Unleash some new uniforms that look incredibly similar to the Colts, and then sit all the starters.

Has a team ever rested starters and gone on to win the Super Bowl? I thought I heard a stat where it had never happened before, but I could be wrong.

(and before you say the Colts in 06 because they ALWAYS rest starters, I think in 06 they had to keep trying because the Chargers had such a good record that year)

If they already have a bye I'd hope we just play it like any other game. 3 weeks without competitive football is a long time, and I think 2 weeks is plenty rest.

But if we have a playoff spot locked up again and no chance at a bye (like last year) I'd want us to rest most starters.

The fact of Jets vs Dolphins doesn't factor into the decision. If the Dolphins really finish that well and Jets finish that bad, are you sure you'd rather have the Fins in the playoffs at that point?

Note that the OP wasn't talking about resting starters or trying to improve the team's playoff match ups.

He is talking about rooting against your own team just to spite another team.

A situation in which I root against the Patriots does not exist. My love for the Pats trumps my hatred of any other team. Anyone who feels differently has their priorites out of order.

Exactly.

I am not sure if I could. But with the Jets it would be tempting.

I think if that were to happen the Kommisar would take away the Pats first round draft pick, based on the "integrity of the game" suddenly becoming very important in this type of situation.

Jets and Dolphins are equal enemies.
The fact that one currently has a load mouth oaf as HC doesnt really make a difference.

By the way after the Jets fall to 9-3 Monday night, it could be the start of a slide. They must go to Pitt and Chi both far better than teams they needed a lot of help from to beat lately. Buffalo and Miami may also not be cakewalks for them.

It amounts to "throwing" a football game.

Resting players, limited gameplan to test stuff, using a backup QB are all okay but deliberating losing ......... that'll get you a visit from the FBI. People rely on the Game's integrity, I would be embarrassed if it happened .... you know, poor up bringing.

That would be as a team. As a fan, .............. no way I'd want to lose going into the playoffs. I'd expect Hoyer to win.
