I'm certainly no fan of Shaughnessy (a writer who can ONLY describe football by analogy to other sports). But...he did write essentially the above after the Vikings dumped Moss.

It really is too bad Randy was so unstable. I wonder how it would have been if he had landed on a solid team early on.

Also, at the end of his Pats career, if he was willing to sign a fair market 2011 and beyond deal (NOT a fair market 2007 and beyond deal) and take a lesser role, I bet there would have been a spot for him. I mean, I know everyone loves to think highly of themselves, but if BB decides that you aren't a prime time guy anymore you should probably listen. BB has always been spot on when evaluating talent that he has in Foxboro.

I have no doubt that part of Randy's problems are mental. But whatever they are, they are not new this season. Randy started becoming less effective down the stretch last year and was awful in the Ravens game.

I would sincerely love to ask Shaughnessy why he would ever believe BB would give up on a season after the thrashing they laid in the Dolphins. That whole game had this special, intense vibe and then you really believe that BB would just decide he couldn't win at all this after that and chuck everything 2 days later?

It makes just absolutely no sense at all in any capacity. Wouldn't the more obvious conclusion be something happened and BB knows something we don't? What is with these sports media figures? Not very smart at all.

Look, I honestly don't think his job description is "accuracy and information". I'm not being facetious at all - - it's just that it is a business and he is slotted to write something that will get eyeballs on it - -doesn't have to be accurate. It's a business.

Columnists are like the clowns at the rodeo. Look at Woody Paige or Jay Mariotti or Michael Felger. Believe it or not, I think these folks are probably average to above average minds - - they are just playing a part - - like a pro wrestler. It's the job description of a columnist versus a reporter. Look at the transformation of Chris Gasper when he made the switch. He used to be a reliable go-to for good info, now he's just any rodeo clown. Not all his fault - - he's just doing what his editors want him to do in this market.

He got a few dollars more in Indianapolis, but failed to recognize the decades of endorsements he could mine in the Boston market after football. Now, he gets none of that. In Indy, with Peyton Manning, he'll get none of that.

Where are these agents to explain these things?

What has happened to Moss is very sad. I liked him a lot as a Patriot but he really made a mess of things this year. As for Vinatieri, I agree, and while he'll always be a hero, he could have been a special kind of legend had he stayed. I'll always remember what he did for us, but it is kind of sad that he left, and it did change how I felt about him a bit.

Moss fired his longtime agent earlier this year. Looking at the events as they have unfolded since, I can't help but wonder now if his former agent was perhaps telling him things he didn't want to hear.

It's ironic how his demands for a big payday are going to cost him ... a big payday.
