I've been inspired by Brother OTG to create my own consolidation thread. :D

Currently four receivers have piqued my interest. I'll start with the first one, and then update the rest tomorrow.

Torrey Smith (6'1 #205) looks like the anti Heyward-Bey. They come from the same school, and apparently have similar speed, but Smith is a thousand times more natural. He runs sharp routes, always appears to give good effort, runs hard after the catch, and is also an extremely talented return man (broke our own Brandon Tate's return records, in fact). Against NC State he had an exceptional game (14 catches for 224 yards and 4 touchdowns), but he could have ended up with even better stats. I saw several times when the quarterback underthrew him so severely that he had to stop, turn around, and run back toward the ball, allowing the DB to catch up and make a play despite 5 - 7 yards of initial separation. There's no reason he couldn't have had 20 catches for 300+ yards in this game. He was that dominating against a pretty darn good defense. Rumor has it that he's going to declare this year, and I want us to draft him in the late 2nd/early 3rd (maybe with the Miss pick? haha). He could be Branch 2.0 in a few years, and might actually upgrade the return game. Really good player.

Just to add some extra perspective: ACC Blog - ESPN The fact that he graduates in December and has a single mother with financial issues makes me think he's gone. Especially since he gives the interview on senior day. Second/third rounder, considering the bumper crop at WR this year, and worth a first in most years, in my opinion. He's very similar to Mike Wallace or Johnny Knox, but I think he's bigger and more physical than either. Essentially, he's DHB with the ability to run routes and catch the ball. Smith, Price, Edelman, and Tate as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year players would be a great nucleus to build around. Branch and Welker aren't going to play forever, as much as I love them.

Please add your thoughts, my fellow daft draft debaters. :)

Tomorrow: Denarius Moore, Titus Young, Ryan Broyles, Greg Little, Cecil Shorts.

Cooooooooooooool. Well DONE, sir. :D

Looking forward to more of the same.

While I don't think we need to draft a WR one guy I think will hopefully end up a UDFA and I wouldn't mind seeing in camp is Kris Durham WR Georgia (6-5/212) 23 years old Redshirt Senior. He'll fall under the radar a bit because he was injured all of 2009 but came back this year and started in place of A.J. Green while he was suspended.

Other than the first 4 games he played mostly in a blowout vs Vandy and this past weekend vs GaTech.

Mark Dell

Mark Dell Stats, Splits, News, Photos - Michigan State Spartans - NCAA College Football - ESPN

Height: 6-2
Weight: 199 lbs.
Age: 21, Senior

Career Statistics
123 Receptions
2,109 Yards
12 Touch Downs

Plays in a pro style offense at MSU and was teammates with Brian Hoyer. So there's always a possibility that Hoyer could add some extra insight about Dell's habits / abilities. Experienced, can run routes.

He came on strong his senior year. Earlier in his career he would drop some passes here or there, and seemed to give a lackadaisical effort at times. But this year he seemed to improve quite a bit, made some really nice catches.

2010 - 2011 Highlights

Of course, I'm biased. But if this guy was still around in the late fifth or later I would love to see the Patriots take a chance on him.

I said similar stuff about Blair White coming out of MSU last draft and the Pats passed on him even as a UDFA. Nice suggestion, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Definitely, just throwing his name out there since he's not well known. In comparison to White, he's better.

Do not need a WR. We still don't even know what Taylor Price can do and I have to assume Julian Edelman is eventually going to step up.
