Pats-Jets tiebreakers for those who can't help but think too far ahead

Given the remaining schedule it is impossible for the common games tie breaker to come into effect.

If the Jets and Pats have the same record, and Jets win Monday (they win divsion).
If Pats win Monday but lose another game in standings to Jets, the Jets win if the loss is an AFC east team - If it is to one of the NFC teams then the common games will be equal and it will move to SOV (edge Pats)

Bottom line is most likely - the winner Monday night is the #1 seed.

Nice call. Yikes, this thing could actually come down to the dreaded SOV.

More importantly, which of the remaining games are the dreaded trap games

@Buff...we have beaten them for ages and the law of averages might eventually catch up...who knows.plus the bills play hard always..

Every AFC East Divisional Game for the New England Patriots is must win from now on.

Any talk of winning the division or #1 seed starts with what you just said. However, given that we should win against Buff and Miami at home (with should being the keyword), the Jet game has enormous ramifications for the #1 seed. A win over the jets lays out a great path to the #1 seed. Which is: 1) take care of business against Buff and Mia and 2) just one win against GB or Chi. That is the clear cut doable path to the #1 seed. A loss to the Jets and the Patriots path to the #1 seed consists of: win every remaining game and hope for A and B and X and Y and Z to happen to get to the #1 seed.

This is dumb as all hell. Yes it may be a tricky game against an untalented but tenacious opponent. But it has NOTHING to do with averages or odds. Yes we have beaten them 14 times in a row but each game is independent of each other. It's not like it is going to suddenly catch up to us. It isn't luck. If we play well we win, if not we lose.

Exactly right

It is tougher for the Jets to get that first seeding unless they win all of their remaining games. They already have a loss to the Ravens, and they play the Steelers. If they end up with the same record as either of those teams it comes down to head to head.

If the Jets win next Monday, and the Pats win out, the Jets still have to play Chicago, and Pitt away, along with the phins, and Bills, if they lose two, its the Pats division.

its my opinion whether you call me dumb or whatever. just like you say "If we play well we win, if not we lose" that is the definition of a trap game.

So what you are saying is, we have potential 16 trap games this year (and every year).
