McCourty DROY?

Does he deserve to be discussed? Yes.

Will he get? No way.

Hell, even Revis couldn't win Defensive Player of the Year award last year after one of the best shutdown seasons by a CB ever.

Luckily, Brady (SHOULD) be the clear cut MVP right now. If all the usuals make the playoffs this year then Belichick will get coach of the year.

I'm loving the season McCourty is having and he certainly has a good shot at winning, but Suh is not only having one of the best rookie seasons for a DT ever, he's currently the best DT in the league.

I posted this very same thread a few weeks ago and people laughed at me. Well whos laughing now! HAHAHA

Vince Wilfork says hi and would probably differ with you on that one. Everyone knew Suh would be dominant from the get go, and he may have been the most surefire prospect to come out of the draft in quite some time. The fact that McCourty came out of nowhere and arguably has been more valuable to his team should count for something
I would think.

Came out of nowhere? He was a first round pick in one of the deepest drafts in many years. He was always going to be picked at worst early in the second round.

McCourty must be coming under serious consideration for some awards. He's getting better as the season progresses, so much so that he looks like a seasoned veteran.

You're such a homer. ^_^
I really like McCourty but at the end of the year the sportswriters will find Suh's sack statistics a lot sexier.
I think he was a great pick. If the Pats had not taken him we would be sunk this year in the secondary.
Nobody foresaw Bodden going down to injury except BB and his magic crystal ball. :D

BB took Mcourty because nobody else on the roster had emerged as the other CB opposite Bodden.

Imagine if we had Bodden AND McCourty this season.....

No, truly a WTF pick to many Pats fans as well as national draftniks (which shouldn't be surprising for Belichick). Was projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder until like the last week before the draft when he moved up into the second. Compared to Suh nobody knew who he was.

He should be. Five picks halfway through his rookie campaign... one for a TD. That's impressive considering he's typically been going up against the other team's best receiver.

McCourty has scored 0 TD's. Today would have been his first had he been able to stay in bounds on the second INT.

Whoops. You're right. I was eating dinner at the time and someone in the chat told me McCourty had a pick six when I came back. Never bothered to double check that.

I think Suh still leads the way but McCourty made a big jump today. He'll need some huge games down the stretch to beat out Suh though. Whether he wins or not, he's had an amazing rookie season so far and I'm glad we have him.

DROY (like most NFL awards) is a popularity contest. Suh will win it just because he's already well known and has been playing at a high level. Look at Byrd last year who had just as good of a season as McCourty and was a mere blip on the radar for DROY voting.

Losing to Suh is nothing to be ashamed of.. Look at how much that guy means to that organization. The entire crowd yells "Suhhh..." in unison whenever he makes a play. He's already the heart and soul of that defense.

Ngata is the best DT in the league. No questions asked.

I think the media has made up their mind to give the ROY to suh. I don't think the performance of any other player will change that.

McCourty belongs in the conversation. I do worry the Suh media hype train has left the station and will be next to impossible to de-rail.

Who won last year? was it Orakpo or Mathews? because both had pretty darn good years as well as Byrd
