Ndamukong Suh pulls Marion Barber's hair on a crucial run, which is then ruled a horse collar.

Coach : "it's not horse collar, that's his hair!"

But didn't Suh also commit a facemask on that play?

But the call was wrong :)

It might not technally be a horse coller it's still insanely dangourous

I don't disagree with your sentiments, but I'll acknowledge that long hair prevents a defender from grabbing a portion of your jersey. It does seem only fair that they can grab your hair instead. This also explains why defensive players can keep their hair longer, while offensive players would have a reason to cut it.
Edgerrin James got dragged down by his hair once late in his career. he cut his dreads the next day.

If the rules don't specifically ban hair pulling, they should.

I disagree. If someone's hair is going to take away a large portion of the back that someone can grab in order to make a tackle, that adds yet another restriction on defenders.

If you want to go out on the field with hair halfway down your back, then you deal with the consequences. Saying that's off limits would be crazy. Tuck it in if you don't want it getting yanked on during a game.

Agree 100% ^^

That was a bad call on SUH.

The NFL has a specific dress rule put in when troy pallamalu was pulled by his hair on an interception return that all players must put there hair either inside there helmet or jersey.

So here barber was actually not under the NFL dress code. So how can SUH get a call because of barber not following league policy.

In 4 years we can see something like that with Brady hair alla Polamalu lol . I hope not, btw

I thought it was a penalty to pull someone down by his hair? When Larry Johnson was a Chief, he got penalized that time he pulled down Polamalu on an interception return. Did they change the rule since then?

EDIT - I found a video. It was penalty for unnecessary roughness because he held on too long.

This is the video:

Better watch your back, Polamalu. Suh is watching. :D

I recall the Polamalu ruling a little differently -- not that you must keep your hair inside your uniform per se, but that IF your hair extends outside your uniform, it's fair game for tackling. IOW, a player assumes the risks of choosing to go Rapunzel.

^This.

I thought the rule was that if your hair extends out from your helmet it is considered part of the uniform and therefore not a penalty if you get pulled down by your hair/uniform.

hair is considered part of the uniform. It's covered under the rules. I think it would have to be a horse collar.

Refs always seem to hose the Lions, the Calvin Johnson "no TD" pissed me off.

Or the players should just get rid of the long hair.

I would not have a problem with that. Either way tackling someone by the hair is dangerous and could very easily cause a broken neck and lifetime of being paralysed.

Crew cuts for all the players.
