I don't start threads as much I once did. Too many verbal beatdowns, lol.

Still, I think this short-week stuff is interesting. I assume the guys still rest today, aside of treatment and some film study?

I wondered why Tate didn't get anything done in the passing game yesterday and was honestly surprised to see Taylor inactive again. Maybe even a bit cheesed off.

But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if Tate, Edelman and Taylor will have increased roles this week? Coming off a short week with some genuinely rested guys on offense, against a hopefully weaker team (though on national TV) seems like a positive.

My thoughts are that Taylor is active and Tate takes a heap of snaps against the Lions out of multiple TE formations. It's possible we don't go that route, but I think it's a good game for Taylor to get his sea-legs back. Maybe we'll even put it away early enough for Hoyer to get some work.

Anyway, anyone familiar with how the short-week to long-week schedule might look? And how would you game-plan this thing?

Tate had the flu, it was reported.

Three days to prepare, which INCLUDES a travel day, is obviously not ideal. On the plus side, Detroit is not the most talented bunch out there, we seemed to not suffer many injuries, and the Colts don't deliver the physical beating that some other teams (like Pitt, Balt, NYG, Jets, Eagles, even Tenn and Jacksonville) put on you.

I'd like to see Fred Taylor play some, though Firm-Woody is fine. After the clinching TD drop, Edelman is in my doghouse!

I expect that the game plan will be pretty vanilla and must be installed today to allow light practice today, another light practice tomorrow, then travel and a walk-through on Wednesday. Or do you fly out Tuesday night to acclimate for a day?

I hope they don't take Brady out at all until we have clinched the division or if we are winning by more than 3 TD's in the last couple minutes of the game.

RB is the spot which it takes the longest to recover. That might have been the gameplan of leaving Taylor out for one more week. Taylor should be active on Thursday, with fresh legs. Tate did seemed to be lost in the shuffle yesterday. I think that Edelmann's drop yesterday was huge, I think that Taylor might be ready to take his roster spot. (Slater will still get the nod for his special teams play, as he did draw a few penalties yesterday). I was kinda wondering why Edelman got into the game at the point.

I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor is out this week and then active vs the Jets.

Rodney Harrison had some comments about preparing for Thursday games on a PFT video clip. His focus was on how hard it is on your body -- nobody can rest up and heal up enough from Sunday to Thursday, especially this deep into the season. So he says that smart coaches lean heavier on meetings than practices for Thursday prep, giving their players a little more chance to recover.

In three days right after a game, I don't see how you can do more than one full pads practice. Even one of them is asking a lot. Usually the pads go on only Wednesday at the earliest, right, and that figures to be a travel day. It's hard to expect anyone to have a role in the game plan that he hasn't had before, and often.

Hopefully he gets at least a half dozen snaps to knock the rust off...

As for game planning, from a coaches standpoint that was done over time and fairly set a week or so ago. It's really a practice problem, but at this point in the season nothing should have to be vanilla. They've had how many games and practices to get it all figured out? Brady was going home last night to watch film. Hopefully his teamates were too. I guarantee you the game plan and scoutine packets they generally get on Wednesday were handed to them on their way out the door last night.

I think that is the sensible plan.

Game planning was already done in advance, they were probably installing it alongside installing for the Colts game. I did not see any extra wrinkles off the bat, but still am reviewing the Colts game.

Meetings and walkthroughs are probably what they are limited to.

Glad that we will have an extra few days to prepare for the Jets game.

The short week is an issue, but it's one of those issues that you know Belichick has analyzed and determined the best possible way to proceed. So, no worries there.

I think they've intentionally held Taylor out this long because he's so notoriously fragile--the value they're going to get from him will be for the stretch run & playoffs. So I think he plays this week, takes a couple of snaps, then is the guy for the Jets & the rest of the way, assuming he doesn't get hurt again.

I hope they take Detroit very seriously, treat them as a SB contender as we did the last 2. I feel they get too confident from game to game or even quarter to quarter and start slacking, we need to bring intensity on the road in a huge trap game.

I wonder how the scout team will simulate playing against Suh. Have two scout players play the same position?

I'd like to think a couple of things....

1) They have learned their lesson re: the Cleveland game.
2) They understand that they need to continue to improve and get better every week.

Who is this Fred Taylor guy?

There is no excuse for them not to, it would set up the perfect rematch against the only AFC contender we have not defeated.

On the other side, though, Detroit must be crappin' a brick with 3 days to prepare for us, coming off a road game so they also have have to travel in the interim, and dealing with having suffered a second half letdown in a winnable road game while having a very young team.
