It's amazing how in the pat 4 games my opinion has changed of Mayo. I knew he was a good player but he's starting to showcase his talents.Boy he can tackle and on very few occassions seems to be out of position..

Its amazes me to think of the future when Spikes, Cunningham, McCourty and Brace/Dreadrick. Wait till they get another year of experience under their belt.. Wow!

Mayo has been pretty much everything we hoped for when the Pats drafted him. I was surprised how fast many fans and many in the media turned on him last year when it seems pretty clear that he was not 100% last year.

Guy is a missile over the field. Excellent technique on tackles. In the beginning of the year, it seemed like he was late on some tackles but as the D gels, I now think he was just making plays he had no right make.

I loved watch him making tackles all day long I feel when I see him go to make a tackle that there is no way anyone is getting away. And his tackle for a loss on the RB early on where he just spotted the gap in the line ran through untouched an made the hit reminded me a bit of ray Lewis killing on a 4th and 1 a few years back.

There was a lot of talk last year about how much of his sophomore slump was due to his knee injury. It's pretty clear now that that was a big factor. Equally clear that he has recovered.

It's still early to be talking about this but Mayo's on pace for 187 tackles this season. It's obviously not a stat the NFL keeps but looking back I didn't find a single player above that number since 2000. He's not flashy and doesn't often make big WOW plays but man is he reliable, just always in good position.

It sickens me every week when the analysts don't even mention how good he has been this season. He should be in the running for DPOY but they don't ever even give him much credit.

I've been checking for the records for most tackles in a season and from what I can see the official record in the NFL is 195 total tackles. Mayo is on pace to beat 190 and could break that record.

Hardy Nickerson had 214 in 1993. And unofficially, San Fran's coaching tape credited Willis with 226 his rookie year.

Mayo had 16 tackles last night (10 solo) which brings him up to a respectable 164 for the year.

In second is Stephen Tulloch w/ 145.

Mayo has a chance (albeit a slim one) of breaking the 195 record someone quoted earlier. This guy deserves a lot more attention then he's getting right now!

i love mayo, but to be honest, the opponents catch so many balls inside the numbers and mayo is right there. gotta make the tackle, but still.

id like to see some picks, forced fumbles.

Because they say many of his tackles are after the runner has gained 4 - 5 yards.

I've heard of few talking about this ... he's plenty good enough for my liking.

This, the D had 80 snaps I think last night because they couldn't get off the field. There was a big argument thread about how tackles are a garbage stat about how good a play is because they 1.) aren't official, and 2.) don't tell much of a story. They can be easily skewed based off of poor defensive play on say, 3rd down, and not getting off the field. Of course our defenders are going to have more tackles than a team who is amazing on 3rd down.

That said, I still think he is an awesome MLB, but his # of tackles tell more about our 3rd down issues than just how good he is.
