anyone here can explain what that was about ..? i couldnt watch the game uninterruped becuase the online feed was crapping on me.
even greg bedard tweeted during the last few mins
Don't know why the Patriots stopped using the defense where Arrington was playing LOLB. Seemed effective. Cunningham doing nothing

It was all dog-faking for when Cunningham came in and forced that pick

I think it was one play, and as a disguise they ran a corner blitz with the corner in a 3 point stance.
Did anyone see it more than once?

It was actually on quite a few plays on those last 2 drives....

I did as well (minimum of twice), except, he was lined up as a DE. Clearly he was going to rush the QB from the get-go. My thought was he was in the fourth quarter position they used Crable for. Fast player to account for.

From that position he could've picked up the back or rush.

I didn't think he was that effective though - OTOH, maybe Manning audibled out of a flat pass. Interesting.

Also, Manning exploited the hell out of this on that 35 yards draw. It was a good call.

I think he had pressure on the McCourty pick, probably caused it because Manning would have seen him break off the route if he had more time.

In the post-game press conference, Eric Scalavino asked Belichick:
You seemed to have Arrington at the line of scrimmage a lot in the second-half -- was that an adjustment?
Belichick's response was:
That was planned. We don't just draw them up in the dirt.

So, apparently significant enough that it was part of the game plan.

He lined up at DE on that McCourty INT. He then came back out on the next defensive series and played DE the entire TD drive by the Colts. Colts ran a few draws on his side and he got totally abused. He couldn't do much rushing Manning as well. I believe he also was out on the next defensive series at DE for a few plays.

Then on the next defensive series, Cunningham was back out.

This was so bizarre.

Umm.. Then Greg Bedard is a moron because Arrington wasn't lining up at LOLB. He was lining up next to the RDE, not the LDE. And it was a Nickle package the Pats had on the field at the time..

Arrington was lined up as a Slot Corner on the Right Side of the Defense several times. He was not lined up at LOLB or ROLB. The Pats had a Nickle package on the field.

Belichick probably got the inspiration for this sub package from Madden NFL

he was definitely lined up with his hand down several times during the fourth quarter. It surely was the most WTF-moment of yesterdays game for me...

the play was designed more as a disruption play. put your self in the QB shoes, everything happens so fast he doesnt know what number/ position is rushing him. For PM it couldve been a DE or OLB, the QB is looking for his receivers while looking thru the corner of his eyes for the pass rush he has half a second to decide, all he sees is a blue jersey getting up to sack him which causes rushed and inaccurate throws. that is the art of war, confuse the enemy.

In the second half, Arrington was lined up at RDE for a number of plays. After the snap, he would always rush the passer. I think BB did this for the following reasons:

He was getting worked by Reggie Wayne during the first half. I don't think BB wanted him on Wayne in the second half (Butler played a lot in the second half). BB probably figured that Indy wouldn't be running the ball that much, and he wanted to to have 5 dbs on the field at all times, just in case Manning went to the no-huddle.

Why we all love Bill...
