Brady or Belichek?

Manning will always keep his team in contention? Just like he did in 1998 and 2001.

Seriously? You are going back 12 years to discredit the last decade of success?

Brady. Great QB play is always more likely to carry a team than great coaching.

If Bill left today I'm fairly certain we could be competitive for the next 5 years with Tom, as long as the next coach isn't completely clueless. If Brady leaves today a mediocre quarterback isn't leading this team to great heights.

Like Cassel?

I'm discrediting the ludicrous notion that Manning, and Manning alone, is responsible for the success of the Colts. If he was, the Colts would never have had a losing season with Manning.

Now Brady, he has never had a losing season.

It's more Brady than Belichick.

Belichick without Brady: 51-62, 1 playoff win, 0 super bowls

Belichick with Brady: 104-32, 14 playoff wins, 3 super bowls

Matt Cassel is doing this year with the Chiefs what he did in 2008 with the Patriots, ie, being competitive against a creampuff schedule. I wouldn't, however, say Todd Haley is as good coach as Bill Belichick.

this argument is meaningless unless you can provide stats including record of brady w/o BB....which you cannot

BB had Drew and he didn't do it, he then had Brady and he has been doing it ever since.

Cassel did a great job in 2008 but I'd give a lot of that credit to Josh McD. Just look at Orton in Denver right now.

It could only, at most, be meaningless in what we know about Brady.

Belichick is another thing. Belichick has seven seasons sans-Brady and none of them were anything special.

I put 10 years as the timeframe because I think the longevity argument in favor of Belichick is too easy. To make the comparison clearer, you could consider who would win more Super Bowls over 10 years: Brady with an average coach (let's say Todd Haley) versus Belichick with an average QB (let's say Matt Cassel). It would be really close, but I would still pick Belichick because he could coach Cassel up and the better D and special teams would allow us to win like Baltimore did with Dilfer.

This is ridiculous. Coaching covers all aspects of the game. Tom Brady doesn't play defense or contribute on special teams. A quarteback's prime is maybe 7-8 years, but a great coach can spend 10-30 years.

Yes, Josh McDaniels is winning a lot of games. Denver is forced to throw a lot since they have no running game and their defense is sketchy at best.

We hear all the time opinions on whether you'd choose Brady or Manning if you were to start a new NFL franchise. For most of us on this board, the answer is Brady by a wide margin. However, I'm curious to know whether the fans here would choose Tom Brady in his prime as our QB or Bill Belichick as our head coach for the next ten years if one could only have one of these valued assets. I'd go Belichick because I believe he will find a way to win regardless of the talent and overtime will build a winner.

Anyone here who thinks it's Brady by a wide margin is delusional. Give Peyton Manning those awesome Patriots defenses and he has the same amount of rings, maybe more. Peyton Manning is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. A strong case can be made for Tom and Peyton. Some will say it's Drew Brees. Chargers fans will pipe in and say Philip Rivers. Anyways, Peyton makes guys like Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon look like probowlers. Remember Brandon Stokely? What has he done since leaving Indy?

except under that scenario BB would not be as happy since he came out and said already that he wants no other QB but Brady.

Do you really think BB will publicly say he wants another QB? lol come on

This is an awful argument. He built up great defenses in New England - better than he had before coming here. He ripped apart a decent Patriots team in 2000 and finished 5-11 in his first year. Then the fun began. Tom Brady is a great player, but there are 52 others who contribute.

Why is it that Peyton Manning has four MVPs and Tom Brady has just one? Peyton obviously carries the Colts. Even this year, Reggie Wayne is showing signs of slowing down, Garcon + Collie have missed time, Dallas Clark is out, there's no running game, and the defense is downright horrible. Yet, here he is at 6-3. Peyton Manning is the Colts.

For the record, I am a Patriots fan, but hate seeing blatant homerism toward the team and its players. The Patriots are simply the best franchise in the NFL. The Colts just can't compete in terms of building the team up. Many say Peyton will be the greatest quarterback in NFL history when he retires. Peyton can only do so much, he doesn't play on defense or special teams. Like I said in another post, give him those Patriots defenses and he wins a few superbowls too.
