Polian already making excuses

Read the article and i'm not sure where you get the "making excuses" part from it?

The blogger brought up the injuries and the fact the pats are the pick. The only thing polian said, according to him as i didn't hear the radio show, was that (summarizing) there's a long way to go after this game and this game won't "decide anything."

couple of opinions from me. 1) that's kind of what the president/GM has to say. I'm not sure you want to put the pressure on your team by saying the monday before the game...if we don't win we're not going to the super bowl.

2) However...i do disagree with Polian because usually the winner of this game in the regular season....winds up hosting the playoff game should these 2 teams meet. So in that regard....it is a big game.

He just didn't fall into the talk-show fodder of "must win type of game"....that's all.

I don't see him making excuses...but as the blogger pointed out...laying the groundwork for an expected loss.....YES.

“(They’re) very good,” Polian said of the archrivals. “And most importantly, this game will not decide anything. There’s a long way to go in this season. The winner in this game is not guaranteed to go to the Super Bowl. And the loser is not guaranteed to miss the playoffs. It’s one game. It’s interesting. It’s exciting. But it’s only one game with seven to go.”

Wow. What a quitter that douche, er, guy, is. A lot of people are going to be shocked when this game ends up being a lot closer than people anticipated. It sucks (for the Colts) that they have to come out of Foxboro and play San Diego too.

we had pittsburgh...then indy....ontop of already playing SD but in terms of the back-to-back! kinda evens out

Trying to remember the last time a senior member of the Patriots' organization -- BB or one of the Krafts -- downplayed the significance of any game to the media.

But hez teh besst tallent evaluatir in teh league!!1

Can't wait til they ask BB about this "You know, it is what it is, we take it one game at a time. The colts are a great team and anytime you're facing a team with peyton manning it's a big game"

THis game is scaring me. People are being too confident in the Patriots, much like people were confident in the steelers last week. The Colts have a chip on their shoulder, something to prove. Polian, I think he's just playing a mind game with the Patriots. Brady didn't practice today, that is cause for concern. We need to start putting mousetraps up in our houses. This is a trap game.

Especially we need to see our boys play four quarters. No need to remind you why. Manning peaks in the fourth, while we sometimes lay an egg in the same.

I thought the Colts loved bragging about their regular season successes. They were hyped up about their consecutive game win streak.

Who too confident...the fans? The same ones who thought we were doomed last week?

Brady missed a practice last week too, do I need to remind you what he did....I will anyway
nearly 70% completion, 350 yds, 4 tds (1 rushing)

Sounds more like pre-emptive damage control than excuse-making. And for once I agree with him. This game won't promise anything for either team, other than one will own a head-to-head tiebreaker over the other (assuming it doesn't end in a draw).

Polian has said some ****ty things in the past but I didn't read anything in that passage that drew my ire.

Yup, agreed. Whether the fans are overly confident or lack confidence has no bearing on the outcome. It's nothing to fear or be ashamed of. Confidence or none, any loss will sting just the same. We certainly don't want the players to be overconfident but this is a team coached and led by the best in the business. They'll be fine.

For all us Pats fans lets leave the humble pie to the players and keep it simple. Be confident, and be proud to root for a team that inspires such confidence.

The first line sounds just like a typical Bill Belichick statement:

“(They’re) very good,” Polian said of the archrivals.

After that I'm not sure if Polian is lowering expectations, trying to use some reverse psychology to fire up the Colts, or perhaps attempting to make the Pats complacent.

That seems to go a bit beyond the 'one game at a time' mantra that most every team tries to instill. It sounds more like a post-game comment than a pre-game comment. If anything I feel like this comment is a set up for an ambush. On the other hand with the Cleveland game very fresh in the player's memories, I doubt any complacency will set in - even after a big, very emotional win a few days ago.

His statements could mean nothing unless the Colts sit their key injured players (Brackett, Session, Addai, Collie, etc). The gametime temperature should be in the 30's and it is pretty amazing how few games the Colts play with the temperature below 40. Probably not the best conditions for guys nursing injuries.

The Colts can be OK regardless of the outcome as long as the injury situation doesn't get worse. They come home to face two talented teams (SD and DAL) looking to right their seasons...then have to go to Tennessee in what will likely be their biggest game of the year. Their season could unravel quickly if the injuries don't get under control.

If everyone suits up for the Colts, then Polian was just babbling. I do wonder if that was his subtle way of prepping the fanbase for a short-handed squad against the Pats.

These comments are pretty strange as usual from Polian.

He should just say...it's gonna be a great game from two teams trying to establish themselves in the AFC playoff race---plain and simple

He really took it far by mentioning it doesn't determine who's going to the SB. It's a midseason game for cripes sake. Polian's head is spinning, I love it! The Pats are in his head. He should remember his team is 5-1 against us the last 6 gms.

If this game isn't all that important, does that mean the refs will only find $250 each in their mailboxes Friday afternoon?

I just have a hard time getting past the writer's sentence that "The end to Polian’s weekly radio show through me for a loop ."

Does Polian still pronounce the name of the New England NFL team as
"Pay-tree-oughts"? He's a first class dbag from all accounts of his press box tantrums...

To this day, I still find it odd that a GM of a NFL team has a radio show...

Brady didn't practice just like he didn't practice last week. Trap game against the Colts? Are you kidding me?? And could please remind me when this team has "layed an egg" in the fourth quarter of a game this season? This isn't 09.

And the fact that "people are being too confident" doesn't hold any correlation to the team's mentality. You ARE aware that fans aren't actually part of the organization, right?
