Yeah, I could stand to see the @ Foxboro, but out in S.D. would be rough. We barely escaped alive the first time this season.

Right, for some reason I'd almost be certain that they'll beat us in SD again if we had to play them again, especially with all of their starting receivers back sooner or later.

I hope they beat Colts again this year when they play though :p

Yeah, I don't want the Chargers in the playoffs.

I like rooting for the draft picks. Agree that if we tank and lose several more games then we're not the kinda team that's gonna win the AFCCG anyhow, so missing the playoffs or 6th seed is likely not a disaster. These teams have ALL proven that they can lose games.

No way I am rooting for the Chargers, just because of soe draft pick as long as they are still able to reach the Playoffs.

And I dont see too many reasons to hope the steelers and ravens win either, apart from making sure, that the colts are bounced out of the playoffs.

To those worried about the fun draft pick driven selections, think about this. Assume the Pats beat the Jets Dec 6th. Even given that, the Pats in a quest for the AFCE Championship cannot afford to lose ANY game unless the Jets also lose because the Jets own the AFC record tie breaker over us since our non-Jet loss was to an AFC team while theirs was to an NFC team. Imagine being a wildcard at 13-3. Point being that the Pats have to 'win out' with a victory over the Jets while only losing a game when the Jets also lose unless the Jets' loss is to an AFCE team or certain AFC teams.

Don't worry..those horeshoes up the Jets butt are going to fall out pretty soon.....

The Jets lost to the Ravens you know. If we beat the Jets the division record and conference record become tied I believe.

NFL Tie-Breaking Procedures
TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.
Two Clubs

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. ...

I think rooting against the Steelers and Ravens is a very interesting debate this week. It is almost like a basketball game where you are down 2 with the last shot. Do you want to risk it with a 3 pointer to win or go in just to tie it up. If you are a risk taker, then you take the 3 or root for Steelers and Ravens to lose because you want to win both the better draft pick and also the highest seed in the playoffs. I am confident with the Patriots that will happen. Some are less conservative here and just want to make SURE that they get the best seeding. It is definitely tough. I think you have to look at the Pats, Ravens and Steelers schedules and guess what you think the records will be based on the remaining opponents.

I love the draft and think its huge to get the higher draft picks.

What I like seeing ahead is that the Steelers play the Ravens again so that is automatically 1 loss for one of them.

For the Steelers, they play Raiders, Bills, Ravens, Bengals, Jets, Carolina, and the Browns. I think they could win every game with the Ravens and Jets being tough games. I do however HOPE for seedings that the Steelers BEAT the Jets so based on looking at the schedule the right response would be for even a risktaker is to have Oakland lose. It is tough to say, but that is what it shows.

For the Ravens, they play Carolina, Bucs, Steelers, Denver, Saints, Browns and Bengals. For this one I think Ravens could lose to Steelers, Saints and maybe Browns. For some reason i am not too confident with the Ravens so my pick would be Ravens win this game.

Decision: Go Pats, Raiders and Ravens!!!!

The one team that the Patriot really really really do not want to see again are the goons on the Ravens. The Patriots hurt their tender feelings by playing rough the first time this season.

Colts (6-3) at Patriots (7-2)

Texans (4-5) at Jets (7-2) - **** the Jets.

Raiders (5-4) at Steelers (6-3) - Gotta help the first rounder.

Ravens (6-3) at Panthers (1-8) - I'm starting to dislike the Ravens more and more as the season goes by. Go Panthers.

Packers (6-3) at Vikings (3-6) - Helps out the third round pick. Besides, I want to see Childress get fired in-season.

Lions (2-7) at Cowboys (2-7) - I like Jason Garrett, but feel bad for the Lions. Besides the Thanksgiving game, I'd root for them in any game this season.

Bills (1-8) at Bengals (2-7) - Bills. But this is one that I really care too much about.

Browns (3-6) at Jaguars (5-4) - Mangini factor, plus the Jags (who I like). Jags easily.

Buccaneers (6-3) at 49ers (3-6) - The woman friend is a Bucs fan. She's usually in a much better mood if they win.

Cardinals (3-6) at Chiefs (5-4) - We want the Chiefs to stay ahead of the Raiders. A win against a hapless Cardinals team helps that.

Falcons (7-2) at Rams (4-5) - Rams.

Giants (6-3) at Eagles (6-3) - Giants. I want them to help other teams figure out how to defend Vick.

Redskins (4-5) at Titans (5-4) - Rooting for a Tits win to help keep the heat on the Colts in that division.

Seahawks (5-4) at Saints (6-3) - I could care less about where the 7th rounder falls. Payton > Carroll.

Broncos (3-6) at Chargers (4-5) - McDaniels > Chargers.

Bears (6-3) at Dolphins (5-4) - Divisional rival vs. a non-conference opponent? Um, gee, well let me think about that one... BEARS.

Rooting Order of Precedence

1. For the Patriots
2. Against credible division rivals (i.e. the Jets and Phins).
3. Against teams that could realistically jeopardize the Pats' playoff position in the conference.*
4. For teams that will improve the Pats' draft position.

* Currently, this means any 6-win non-divisional AFC teams, such as the Ravens and Steelers.

Oakland or Pittsburgh?

Who do you root for this week: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

I see Pittsburgh as more of a threat to the Pats' playoff hopes (they have a better record, may be battling NE for a wild card spot, etc.), so from that standpoint I want Oakland to win.

But the Pats have Oakland's first round pick after this season, so every Raider win bumps that pick further down the list. And, of course, I really dislike both teams.

I guess I have to root for Pittsburgh, for the following reasons:

(1) That pick is very valuable.
(2) Pittsburgh has a pretty tough schedule the rest of the way, and
(3) The Pats own a H-to-H victory over Pittsburgh; meaning, I hope (2) and (3) are enough to keep Pittsburgh below the Pats in the playoff standings.

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

Root for Oak. The difference between a 13th pick and a 14th pick is not a more significant factor than possible home field/bye/wildcard.
Fail.

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

Oakland. Makes it an easier path to the number one seed and also holds back the Chargers a little bit. Not that I'm afraid of them or anything, but who would you rather face in the playoffs?

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

I'm going to be ok with whoever wins this game, but I have to admit I'm leaning towards Pittsburgh. I really want that pick in the top 15, and we own the tiebreaker against Pitt now.

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

It all depends on how much confidence you have in the Pats.

If you believe from now to the end of the season that the Pats will do now worse than one less win than the Steelers, even with a Pittsburgh win Sunday, then go ahead and root for the Raiders to lose.

If you're more cautious and don't want to assume anything, then root for the Steelers to lose.

And if you pessimistic and still don't believe the Pats are capable of a playoff run, then you root for both a Steelers win (to give the Pats a better choice with their own pick) as well as a Raiders loss (to give the Pats a better choice with the Oakland pick.)

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

If the Pats game was any indication, Oakland's running game and front four are going to cause all kinds of problems for Pittsburgh. I think Oakland will win, but I'm pulling for Pitts. They're not a threat to us.

Re: Oakland or Pittsburgh?

Definitely Pittsburgh--the Steelers are in the Pats' rearview mirror, as far as I'm concerned. And I know the Raiders are improved, but are we sure they can't reel off a bunch of losses in a row? I'm rooting for the pick.
