I've never been as down on him as others and while there are other players who may be more deserving, it is a great honor for him. Congrats 36!

a shock. i thought he played fine, tho Chung had a MUCH better game. (Sanders Pick 6 was a direct results of a great play by Chung for example)

no idea what goes into such an award, seems shaky.

in any case, i am happy for 36. he's a solid Patriot!

Sanders did play well, but as others have noted Chung was the key to the secondary -- and the key to the pick six. I guess it makes sense, though, if you just think of it as "The Patriots' defense clearly played the defensive game of the week, so let's choose the guy who scored for them to represent that."

So, the voters are to try to find the "key" element in the defense rather than the try to assess which player who produced the most? I agree that Chung is the difference maker on our defense. Thagt is not a reason to make him DPOY when the defense does well. The process isn't that sophisicated.

Personally, I don't see why we can't simply congratulate Sanders on his fine performance.

Oh yeah, I remember why. Most fans here think that he should have been cut and still want to replace sit him or him.

Seriously. Sanders is a very good player for us and probably has a lot to do with Chung's intellectual development in the system. I thought he had a very good game, personally, beyond the pick-six.

I'm curious to see if he gets fined or not. I sort of hope he does (not that I'm for his financial loss) only because I think that will send an interesting message to defensive players. I don't think it was a flagrant hit, but it was exactly what they claim isn't allowed.

Bandwagon posters are amusing, to say the least.......JSn, you have always been centered and while I may slant towards homerism a bit - at least I know it never comes down to one player.

Sanders is smart, knows the system well and is always prepared and in the right spot - that is crucial. If he had a bit more speed he might be almost as good as Chung is going to be next year!!

Nobody's talking about the overall "key" element to the Patriots' defense here (otherwise the names Mayo and Wilfork, rather than Chung, would presumably dominate). It's the perception that Chung was more productive on Sunday. He had 10 tackles to Sanders' 4, and created the turnover that Sanders brought in.

That's not a slam on Sanders in any way, he played very well. But I'd have voted for Chung.

It's the perception that Chung was more productive on Sunday. He had 10 tackles to Sanders' 4, and created the turnover that Sanders brought in.

That's not a slam on Sanders in any way, he played very well. But I'd have voted for Chung.

I remember one time during the game Sanders was caught barking out some signals by the camera, the team adjusted, and they stopped Pittsburgh in the backfield (no stat for that adjustment). Should Rothlisbeger be QB of the game because he threw for more yards than Brady? Sometimes stats aren't everything.

But the combo of Meriweather / Chung / Sanders seems to work well, I think they all compliment each others skill sets nicely.

You know, that's a good point. Chung is emerging as the leader, a guy like Rodney Harrison, while my impression is Sanders is smart but maybe not quite a top-tier guy physically, and Meriweather is a ferocious hitter but maybe not a genius on the field. I do see how as a group they could be terrific.

Vick was great - but let's face it, the Eagles performance the other night was just another week for us in 2007. I'm not as overwhelmed as other folks. The only difference is Brady hadn't slaughtered piles of dogs and spent two years in prison, so it was less of a big deal.

So, Orton did get AFC Offensive POW - which I find a little surprising. Surely Gronk's 3TDs or Brady's 3TDs, 1 rushing TD, higher yardage - both against better competition - should count for something.
