Incredible . . . Unbelievable. McNabb is THE most overrated player in the NFL. It's criminal.

Let me just say that there are a lot of coaches out there who would like to have McNabb locked in as their quarteback. We get spoiled at the top of the AFC with Brady, Manning and Roethlisberger.

Sure but at what price. FO fiasco.

MG, who else would give McNabb $40 million guaranteed now?

Seriously, it's another case of Dan Snyder negotiating against his imaginary evil twin Daniel Snyder. They're very competitive, they are always trying to outbid each other.

I'm down here in the DC suburbs and people are apoplectic about this.

The Early Lead - Poll: Is the contract better news for Donovan McNabb or the Redskins?

Yet another WTF moment for the Redskins.

Absolutely baffling.

Good, that means they will be an average team and possibly make the playoffs just to lose in the first round. Only an idiot would sign McChoke to a contract with $40 mil guaranteed.

I agree 100%. McNabb isn't worth anywhere near the contract amount. However, this team is the 2nd most valuable team in the nfl, with the highest revenue. Snyder wants results and is willing to spend for it. And, no he isn't willing to risk losing team cash value by risking losing McNabb or by having a coach bench the face of the franchise for a scrub.

The fans should remember that this team was 4-12 last year!

Yes, Snyder went crazy. He made lots and lots of changes since the end of last season. He made good decisions and bad ones. He always seems to do whatever necessary to TRY to win this year. That is NOT the patriot philosophy, but it is the redskin philosophy.

And, this year they are in the hunt for the division. That's pretty good for a MAJOR rebuilding year. Surely, no one thought that the redskins would be competitive this year.

Snyder made a huge TEAM committment when he traded for McNabb. As expected, he has now overpaid for a long-term contract.

The fans should be glad that they have an ownership that want to do all it can to try to win. And they should be glad that they aren't cowboy fans.

McNabb's taken his team to a Super Bowl, and he's taken his team to the NFCCG on multiple occasions. Knowing that, I find it difficult to accept your position.

Shanny should have his out after pulling dante instead of playing him the 2 minute drill. For the foreseeable future McNabb is the face of the franchise. Shanny will get used to it or someone else will.

Redskins ownership may be nuts but they do own the team. McNabb can provide stability.

The reality is that Washington is in the division race, having ZERO losses to the top teams, and having beaten Philly once.

Perhaps there was a locker room or player-coach issue.

Redskins ownership may stink, but it's their money and this was their way of supporting their quarterback and their offense. There's something to be said for that.

I'm inclined to agree with you on this - there's probably more than meets the eye on this one when the owner/GM and coach obviously are not on the same page...

But I'm not expecting them to air their grievances publicly and I think we can safely say that Shanahan will put the best players he can on the field no matter what the owners decide to pay them (or overpay them).

I think McNabb is someone worth locking in for a few years simply because there's not a lot of talent available at QB in this league - and it's impossible to predict whether the Skins will have a chance to grab a better QB in the draft or free agency.

This is sure one expensive insurance policy at QB, but then again it's not my money and there's no cap this year either.

I don't think this is Shanahan's "out" however - but that doesn't mean he won't get himself fired by benching his $78 million QB either... still Shanahan wants to win most of all so I don't see him going out of his way to bench an expensive player to make a point.

2010 stats

McNabb ( 4-4)
7 INTs
8 INTs
1,971 Yards

76.0 Rating

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

He isn't even a top 20 QB, seriously.

I think you just also described John Elway of the early to mid 1990s.

How'd that wind up working out for the Broncos?

Does this include 2 minute drills?

What a joke of a franchise

The joke is in Dallas where talent just leads to losses.

The joke is in NY, where the Giants went 6-2 and then folded last year, and may be ready to do so again.

The joke is not in a place where the team was 4-12 last year and is in the playoff hunt this year.

Got it right Pete ... all I can think of is that money will help pay for a new shipment of HGH ... he needs it.

The Giants are alot better off than the Redskins if you ask me.

I had alot of respect for Shanahan until he benched his franchise QB in favor of Rex Grossman. This is Rex Grossman we're talking about dude. And now they extend him 5 years. They may be 'in the hunt' for now thanks to being in a mediocre division/conference but the franchise hasn't fielded a contender since the early 90s for a reason.

I told ya guys. Brady is the cheaper player of the league .

I know it sounds crazy but I've seen coaches bench a more talented QB for a lesser QB who worked harder in practice just to make a point and light a fire under that QB

(Granted, when an owner then gives said QB a $78 million contract extension, that can tend to undermine the Coach's intent, but the point still stands - coaches have reasons for the things they do... they'll even lose a game in the short term to win more in the long term)

I dont know about that.
Sure there are a lot of teams that are sub500 that would like to be 500, but how many teams want to consign the next 5 years to being a franchise that has a QB who either makes them respectable if they are weak, or holds them back when they get good.
Perhaps the Lions would sell their soul to go 45-35 over the next 5 years, but I think most teams would be making a mistake.

(((I firmly accept that many people have a much higher opinion of McNab than I do, but I have never considered him more than an average QB given the opportunity to QB a talented team)))

If you think about it how many teams have become championship caliber with someone elses QB? It seems you have to develop your own from the ground up, which makes an awful lot of sense, given that the biggest challenge in training anyone in your way of doing things is untraining what they learned elsewhere, and usually refuse to change.

Drew Brees is an exception, but there havent been many QBs to win SBs with a team that didnt draft them in a long long time.

MG, you make it sound like Snyder is using his own money out of the goodness of his heart.

I live here. You should know that the "fan experience" since he bought the team involves turning the Redskin fan upside down and shaking vigorously until all money has fallen from the pockets. FedEx is a dehumanizing experience for these people - - it's quite sad and pathetic.

Snyder has bled this franchise and its fans dry like a Somali pirate. There is no discipline, no vision and no real future for the chaos of this organization. They bounce from crisis to crisis - - and it is all played out in the media, not unlike the Childress culture.

Ask a Redskin fan someday how much he/she enjoys the "Snyder Experience". It will open your eyes.
