Buffalo seems determined to have the top pick next year. If they hold on to the worst record, do they go for a QB? Fitzpatrick's been a gamer, but Bradford this year plus the whole Ryan/Flacco thing two years ago shows rookies can do all right starting off. Bills could get something good in return for Fitzpatrick, too. Thoughts?

QB Andrew Luck, Stanford. The only way they can screw it up is if Luck refuses to become a Bill (not that I'd blame him). Fitz can be a solid backup for them.

I hope he doesn't pull an Elway. The Bills are the one team in our division I don't hate. They really need a face of the franchise. Have to sell some tickets. I love this highlight of Luck against USC. He can always play lb if the qb thing doesn't work out.

Andrew Luck lays out USC db

If Buffalo gets top pick I see them going D-line or OLB and letting some other team go for the top QB.

From a pure football angle. That might be the way to go Box. But, they have other concerns too. They've got to sell some tickets and establish a face for their franchise. Their fans are already pissed they haven't drafted a qb the last couple of years. Fitzy is a nice guy to have until their top pick would be ready to play. But, they're just delaying the inevitable. They need a franchise qb. Heard someone say. There are two type of teams in the league. Those who have qb's. And, those who don't. They need to get their qb. If Luck doesn't come out, I'd pass on Locker.

Trade down for multiple picks.

I dont see why the Bills would have to take QB just because there's a good one available. Fitz has looked legitimate, and the Patriots are proof positive that you dont need to use a top-10 pick to secure a franchise QB. Some team like the Cards or Niners will be willing to trade up for Luck if he enters the draft.

Urgh, OK every now and again you can luck into a great QB in the later rounds. But the odds of finding even a decent QB late are just so low.

As your Fitzpatrick, go look at what Tyler Thigpen did in Gaileys offense a few years ago on an awful team, and where is he now?

To win consistantly in this league, you need that QB, and these days with the level of scouting in the league, a lot more of these first round QBs are playing pretty good football. This isn't the mid 90s where you could hand the ball off and manage the game. Its a passing league.

If Fitzpatrick continues to look pretty good and somehow by the end of the season they turn out with 3-4 wins then they may not want to grab a QB in the 1st. With a few wins they may not have the first pick anyway but I can see them grabbing AJ Green or a top defensive player. I think grabbing a playmaker on offense (not a QB) or defense will be good in continuing to rebuild. They may even want to trade back to get more picks because as we all know, that is a good strategy in team rebuilding.

Even after teams grab a QB number 1 overall they usually aren't a winning team right away so you can't blame it all on the QB. Fitzpatrick may easily be the better option for the bills if they trust his ability enough and grabbing a top notch playmaker may make a sooner impact if Fitz steps up.

I guess the OP is a bit vague to me.

If it's what the Bills SHOULD do, I'd say pass on the QB and trade down if possible. They don't have anybody on that O-line to help protect a rookie QB anyways and they have a ton of other needs.

If it's what the Bills WILL do, I'd say they'll take a QB, and probably a bust (Jake Locker sounds about right).

Yeah, it's a passing league, and Fitz is a pretty solid passer. I've been watching him for the past four or five weeks (mostly because he's on my fantasy team) since he got the starting job, and the kid can play. He's moving the team down the field and scoring points.

I honestly don't think QB is the reason the Bills are losing. They just suck at too many other positions. So, why spend the pick on a franchise QB when all that does is create a quarterback controversy for the team, and does nothing to solve the serious weakness at LB, OL, DL, S and TE? Screams "trade down for multiple picks" to me.

Yeah, trading down makes complete sense which is why the Bills won't do it, they're the Bills, the same team that spent a 1st round pick on CJ Spiller. Unless they hire Parcells to take over as a personell consultant you can bet they'll draft stupidly just like before.

That is a really intriguing idea. Parcells to Buffalo makes a ton of sense. If nothing else it would give the Rex Ryan someone else to verbally spare with.

It's pretty damn hard to trade out of the number one spot in the draft. Even if the Bills actively pursued it, they'd have a hard time making it happen without getting fleeced.

It would be incredibly sought after if there's a sane rookie salary cap put into place, at that point it's all about getting the guy you want and you don't need to make a tremendous financial commitment to him.

Look at how the Lions are rebuilding. Slowly adding impact players and that is why I think if the Bills have faith in Fitz, they should trade back and get more picks for more impact players. They just got CJ Spiller and I think they may want to take a look at a top DT and OL next year. They may even want to grab a guy like AJ Green, like I said, or P. Peterson.

If your team has a QB, then the next best place to start adding studs is the D Line.

WR and secondary guys can be added later.

Look at how BB spent three or four drafts building the secondary while the D Line and LBers crumbled and tanked the team last year.

Plus that would complete his tour of the AFC East and he can concentrate on getting jobs in Washington and Philly to finish off the NFC East.

Why wouldnt you want to beef up the O-line? If you have that investment made in a QB I'd think you want to protect him.
