Week 8: Vikings at Pats pre-game thread

Ironic that they should talk about BB being a master planner when Favre is someone you can't plan for because he improvises. He shoots from the hip. How do you plan for that? You never know what he will do next because he doesn't even know, himself.

My initial thought is to play cover 2 robber to spy Peterson and let the chips lay where they fall as far as covering the field. Priority is to stop Shiancoe and Harvey, and above all do not play inside leverage on Moss because he loves that- we must play outside leverage to funnel him into the safeties, and hopefully that leads to some alligatoring.

Just be ready to capitalize on the turnovers because they will come.

Hadn't really thought of Shiancoe as being a priority, but that does make sense.

Point is, almost all the discussion seems to be Brett Favre's ankle, his streak, Childress' comments, Moss' return, etc. I'm seeing relatively little 'Pats run defense vs Minnesota running game', 'Vikings secondary vs Pats tight ends', etc. In other words - and maybe it's just me - but I'm mostly seeing, reading, and hearing the superficial stuff and almost no 'nuts and bolts' pre-game analysis.

Until now, I had no idea whom Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings were playing tomorrow. From the media coverage, I assumed the anonymous opponent was immaterial.

A warning.

Many of you out there are thinking Brett Favre will throw two, three, or even four interceptions.
In fact, some of you seem like there's no chance he won't play sixty minutes without an x number of interceptions.

You might be setting yourself up for a disappointment, as it IS possible for him to go a game without throwing an interception.

Now, I'm not saying he won't.
But relying on him to make these turnovers for a victory might not a smart thing to do.

Just hoping that this thread is enough to stop some possible "0MG, WE'R3 IN TRUBLE CUZ EVEN FAVRE DEDNT TURNOVER THE BALL AGANST OUR DEFANSE!!1!!1" threads after tomorrows game.

Re: A warning.

So.....

You took the time to write, and then post, this, hmm?

Re: A warning.

1. Have another swig of your old man's vodka,
2. Stick your finger down your throat,
3. Throw up,
4. And get to bed before your parents come home from bowling and you get caught.

Re: A warning.

With all the positive threads on the defense, this is almost Nostradamus-like.

And Brett Favre has games with no interceptions - the Dallas game to be precise. Sure he threw at least one in the other 5 games, but there are no guarantees.

Re: A warning.

Alright, I'll try to do it sine impetus ad hominem. Yes, we're quite well aware that he may not throw an interception. That's pretty well a given. There is no need to make a separate thread to remind us of that.

Enjoy the game.

Re: A warning.

It'll be a tough game. Like every other game today. And every game this season. Like wise man say "It is what it is". It's gonna be an awesome day of FOOTBALL!:rocker:

Re: A warning.

Well one thing is right, Favrequad won't throw 1,2,3 or 4 interceptions. He'll throw 5.

Re: A warning.

No need to bash me.
I just heard someone earlier arguing with a Vikings fan. The Vikings fan made points about Peterson, Moss, and their other offensive weapons. The Patriots fan said we'd win because Favre would throw three interceptions.

Knowing this board, if anyone else is looking for a minimum of three interceptions, I can see some more doom and gloom after the game, whether we win or lose.

It was just something to point out, after seeing everyone run around saying "favre will throw x number of INTs" everywhere.

I can understand you not liking him, but he's a good player. He can go a game without throwing one.

With that said, I'm looking forward to interceptions too. I hope they come. Chances are, we'll get at least one. But I'm not counting them as a reason why we'll win this game, I'm not relying on them.

My point was...
Let's hope we get some,
and not cry if we don't.

You don't have to come here and make idiotic insults for absolutely no reason. Some people on this board really need to grow the **** up.

That was totally unnecessary and totally hilarious at the same time.

I thought it was unimaginative and mediocre at best, but that's just me. It reminded me of monotonous high school level jock humor. Oh well, where tha heck do I think I'm posting anyway? Not a board full of deep thinkers, that's fer shur, sociologically speaking.

Re: A warning.

Thanks for the warning. Not sure what I will do with it, but will keep an eye out for Favre not throwing INTs. I would think that if AP runs all over us, Favre might not throw any, but if we can bottle up the run, then it might be Merry X-Mas time!!!

No Sh*t Sherlock!

This is a trap game for the patriots.... the Viking are gonna start fast and never look back. Vikings 34 - pats 9

Sirius magic Radio guys said that Favre would be dangerous this week because he was actually listening to childress  and would follow the game plan because with all the HC talk and T Jackson talk, the coach's basic message to Brett was that Favre would/could be benched if he continued to deviate too much. The couple seasons where Favre played under some semblance of control, he was dangerous.

Just our luck to get the one game where Favre doesn't "just go out there and have fun".

That said, color moi skeptical. I expect a blizzard of picks notwithstanding the brilliant thread "Warning" posted here.

Fixed that for you. ;)

Re: A warning.

Dear Interception

Please disregard the cranky rude posts; some guys take this football business way too seriously.

How you write is going to affect how people will react to your post. You treat people like idiots, they will treat you like one.
