Just FWIW...did you know that Wes Bunting over at NFP had Aaron Hernandez rated as a top 5 player in last year's draft? He had him graded at an 8.5 on his scale, his highest rating for this year's draft, and comparable to that of Suh, for most of the pre-draft season, ultimately dropping him to 8.0 right before the draft. The draft part of the site is pay now, so I'm not linking anything, but I remember clearly wondering if Wes was an idiot both in comparison to other ratings systems, which had Hernandez graded much lower, and to NFL teams' scouts, who let AH drop to the fourth round. Then of course I was feeling good that NE grabbed him so low. AH looks very solid now and now I think Wes saw something the others missed.

Or, perhaps more accurately, he overlooked something that too many focused on; pretty much all the changes in Hernandez's life came after the unexpected death of his father a few weeks ago (e.g., he had originally committed to UConn, but ultimately changed his mind and went to Florida).

Indeed, I did, and it was primarily on the strength of his testimony that I was pounding the table on Aaron Hernandez, last March, when everyone else at FootBalls Future ~ the Site I then frequented ~ was screaming at me about what a foolish idea that was.

Wes Bunting is clearly The Man when it comes to college scouting.

He was also MILES ahead of the curve on Brandon Spikes, Marquis de Pouncey, and Charlie Brown.

I would never call him the man. But he knows talent when he sees it, but so do all the draftniks out there. The key is can those draftniks project a talented kid into the right system. One look at their mock drafts and the answer for almost all of them is no.

Look New England and Pittsburgh both play a 3-4 defense, yet the players that play OLB for Pittsburgh, probably would not succeed in New England's defense and vice versa.
Yet New England and Pittsburgh both use their TE's in almost the exact same way. At the TE spot, clearly these two teams would be going after the exact same players.

This is all about projecting and Bunting like Mel Diaper Jr. and all the rest of the draftniks, just do not get it.
