I'm just curious as to see what people think of other head coaches in the NFL... or head coaching candidates for that matter... and share who they think is the best and why

... or maybe look at the question like this - if Belichick retired at the end of this season and you could wave your magic wand and have any coach out there, who would it be?

Mike Tomlin is someone who comes to mind... no nonsense, demanding, has kept his guys focused during some challenging times, etc etc... Maybe Jeff Fisher...

Frankly its not a long list for me... there's some guys out there who have lots of good qualities but not the ones I deem most important in a head coach

1. Belichick
2. Shannahan
3. Reid
4. Fisher
5. Tomlin?

Sean Peyton.

tomlin comes to my mind suprisingly fast as well

1. BB
and then its one of shanahan, mcarthy(GB), payton, tomlin, reid, atlanta's hc, coughlin, haley, kubiak

those 9 are all pretty even if u ask me, and i would take one of them

Sean Payton by a distance, in fact I think he's not a million miles away from BB.

No love for John Harbaugh though? The Ravens were going backwards at an alarming rate before he took over, and he's remoulded them into a superb team.

I'm not going to be homerrific enough to say I definitely think Rex Ryan's in that top 5. He's brash, arrogant and cut from a different cloth, but he does get results out of his guys. Also seems like all the guys that are out of the game now but on TV could still be elite (Cowher, Dungy, Jimmy J, etc)

My top 5:

1. Belichick
2. Tomlin
3. Ryan
4. McCarthy
5. Payton

4. Coughlin
5. Tomlin

Heh... Reminds me of Grouchos comment//

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read....."

After Coach B, there is no one else to speak of.

Our Patriots nation will end when he retires.

Take Reid out and it's good

Why? Reid has been to numerous nfc championships and has the eagles contending year in year out. I think Payton is a bit overated. Remember he's been to the playoffs twice in four years. Not that I don't think he can be a great coach, he's not there yet. He's gone 10-6,7-9,8-8,13-3.

No one........

1. Belichick

Large Gap

2. Coughlin
3. Fisher
4. Reid
5. Tomlin

1: Belichick

2: Coughlin

3: Peyton

4: Ryan ... pains me but he is a good coach with decent defensive vision.

5: Fisher

1. Bill
2. Mike Tomlin
3. Coughlin
4. Shanahan
5. Jeff Fisher
6. Andy Reid
7. John Haurbaugh
8. Rex Ryan (I hate his guts, but he is a good coach. Brought the Jets to the AFC championship game and now they are 5-1)

Wonder if Jerry Jones is going to read this thread???

Andy Reid has no place within the top half of all the coaches in the league. He is terrible and has the worst clock management skills in the history of the NFL.
