Media predictions for Sunday's game between the Vikings at Pats.

The world wide leader is going with the Pats across the board, one of five games that Eric Allen, Mike Golic, Merril Hoge, Ron Jaworski, Chris Mortensen, Adam Schefter, Mark Schlereth, Adam Wickersham, their AccuScore simulator, and their fans are all in complete agreement on. The NFL Sunday Countdown crew of Mike Ditka, Keyshawn Johnson, Cris Carter and Tom Jackson are all picking the Pats to win as well.

Their Madden game simulation has the Pats winning a close one.

When Randy Moss caught a touchdown pass on the first drive of the game, it looked like he was going to light up his old team while leading the Vikings to a much-needed win. Unfortunately for the men in purple, that was the last time Moss saw the end zone all day and the Patriots were able to pull out the 21-20 game thanks to 301 yards passing from Tom Brady.

Their Accuscore has the Pats winning 65% of the time with an average score of 27.1 to 21.8

if favre sits or goes out in the middle of the game .our chances should improve. surprised so many picked the pats considering a wounded favre could be dangerous.

The Sunday Countdown guys still have last week's predictions.

All five CBS Sports writers are also picking the Pats to win, but most think the game will be close. When picking against a 5.5 point spread rather than straight up it's 4-1 Vikings; Pete Prisco, Clark Judge, Dave Richard and Josh Katzowitz all think the Vikings will keep it close while only Will Brinson thinks the Pats will win by 6 or more.

Its the second week in a row in which we have faced an extremely desperate team. This is going down to the wire yet again most likely.

I don't know why it went to last week's picks. I re-entered the link, it should go to the week 8 picks now.

John Rook of Patriots Playbook and his guest Russell Baxster of ESPN both have the Vikings winning.

I say Brett Favre plays, and I say Tom Brady plays better.

Week 8 matchup: Vikings at Patriots - NFL - Sporting News
A familiar name moonlighting at SN has the Pats winning by a field goal.
The pregame drama isn’t meaningless. It will have a serious impact on the field. Moss’ highly anticipated return is one juicy topic, and his play will go a long way in determining if the Vikings can move the ball. And whether Favre plays on his gimpy ankle will loom large, too. Meanwhile, the drama-free Patriots are in the midst of a three-game winning streak. Favre’s uncertainty and Moss’ emotion will make life difficult for the Vikings, especially if Jackson has to play. The Patriots may struggle to contain Peterson, but Brady’s offense will do what it has to do. Prediction: Patriots 24, Vikings 21

John Rook of Patriots Playbook and his guest Russell Baxster of ESPN both have the Vikings winning.

Rook is an idiot. I downloaded one of his podcasts for part of my 10-hour trip to see my girlfriend and back a few weeks ago. After about 5 minutes, I turned it off. I never knew anybody could be so critical of a team they work for :ugh:

Is Rook really the play by play announcer at Gillette stadium?

Dave Goldberg picks the Pats by the score of 23-20.
Maybe Brett Favre will play, and maybe he won't. If he does play, he'll be hobbled, so Tarvaris Jackson may be the better choice in any event for Randy Moss' return to Foxborough.

Probably doesn't matter.

Don't listen to the crew before him then on PFW in Progress. Andy Hart, Paul Perillo and Eric Scalavino are the biggest critics going. To be fair Hart and Scalavino are worst with Perillo being fair both ways and Fred is the biggest homer going. Those guys make Rook look like a homer.

What If Sports is going against the grain on a lot of games. They have the Packers beating the Jets too where most of the world picks the Jets.

Week 8 NFL Picks Finding Randy Moss' New England Return, Brett Favre's Injury Difficult to Predict - NFL - NESN.com

Michael Hurley of NESN believes the Pats will win by at least 7 points.
NEW ENGLAND (-6.5)* over Minnesota

At this point, you have to think Brett Favre is hurting the Vikings, so if he doesn't play, that may not be a bad thing for Minnesota.
It will be interesting to see whichever Vikings quarterback take the field and lob bombs to Randy Moss all evening, as rookie Devin McCourty will likely be assigned the duty of covering the Hall of Famer. The two were matched up quite often in training camp, and, well, it didn't always work out so well for McCourty.

While a potential start from Tarvaris Jackson could cause some confusion for the Patriots, it could also help them stack against the run to limit Adrian Peterson. Jackson's starting may also force Brad Childress to actually use Peterson like the best running back on the planet, which would be terrible news for New England. There are, obviously, quite a few "ifs" in this one.

WalterFootball.com
RECAP: The Vikings are my favorite play this week, regardless of who the starter is. Here are my reasons:

1. The whole second-consecutive road underdog thing again. Brad Childress is actually 6-2 against the spread in the latter end of a back-to-back road swing.

2. The venerable Statfox Trend comes into play yet again. Teams coming off a close road victory really struggle to cover the spread as home favorites (see trend below).

3. This game means so much more to the Vikings, who are two back of the Packers and Bears. New England is sitting pretty at 5-1, and isn't desperate for a victory.

4. The Patriots haven't been the same team since the Moss trade. Their offense just isn't explosive anymore, which makes laying a lot of points with them a poor proposition.

5. If Tarvaris Jackson starts, the whole "good team playing its backup quarterback" situation will come into effect.
Week 8 NFL Pick: Patriots 23, Vikings 20
Vikings +5.5 (5 Units)

Its the second week in a row in which we have faced an extremely desperate team. This is going down to the wire yet again most likely.

It may just be me, but it seems that every team that plays against the Patriots are desperate, but everyone wants to win.

I'm guessing I'm in the minority here, but I hope Favre starts and plays the whole game.

I like it better when they pick the Pats to lose,frankly....

Pats 21
Vikes 20

I can't remember the last time the Pats played a pretty good team and it was unanimous that we win. Makes me nervous...
