After half a season, who do you think the Pats should have drafted between these two players? McCourty has played admirably and appears to be a an extremely solid pick. Bryant is looking as good as advertised, going for three TDs tonight including a 93 yard punt return and some impressive YAC. I also noticed on several plays he seemed confused pre-snap, needing to ask Austin about the route (possibly because Kitna came in)... but it's fair to say that, also as advertised, the guy is probably not a playbook master.

Also, do you think the Patriots would have drafted Bryant if they'd known what would happen with Moss?

Without McCourty, the Patriots defense would be in huge trouble this year, not that the pass defense is stellar with him... but we'd be looking at Arrington/Butler/Wilhite... in other words, a nightmare.

We need a solid CB...and that's what we got

McCourty by far. McCourty is much more valuable to the Patriots than any rookie WR would be. He isnt playing like a rookie, he is going to be a stud.

Bryant never really had any chance of being drafted by the Pats IMO, he just doesnt fit in a BB system.

With the injury to Bodden and Butler taking a significant step back, I would hate to see what this secondary would look like WITHOUT McCourty.

w/ bodden going down, its not even a question

w/o bodden going down, its interesting, but even when dez does good like today, he does some questionable moves....

i dont see anything that great in him as a player yet

McCourty but with Bodden

...McCourty, we do need to address receiver this offseason though.

Re-post this same exact question in 2-3 years.

Dez Bryant has more star potential. And maybe if we were in a better situation at CB I would've said Bryant. But McCourty has been exactly what we needed. Hypothetically, you switch the two players and the Patriots are in worse condition overall.

It's a pretty good question........................

At this point I'm good with McCourty and the extra pick.....
He's been solid for a rookie and he's gonna get better and better.....

The pick the still seems to be the most eye-opening steal is Aaron Gonzalez. he's been phenomenal...............

of course breer cant stop gushing about bryant. he forgets denver passed on him too and took another WR

@CoryatWSR That was the risk passing on Dez. Not like this is shocking. I know 1 WR coach had him as best receiver prospect in a decade.

Am sorry, but this is the biggest bull nonsense i read on this board. Every player we don't get doesn't fit our system. I bet if we didn't get randy moss, you would be saying he doesn't fit our system because he doesn't go over the middle.
Please come up with a better arguement.

Not that it adds a whole lot into the discussion at this point, but technically it's McCourty & Price vs. Bryant.

No question it's McCourty.

It took me all of one day to understand why BB and the Patriots took McCourty after scouring as much information on him I could find.

Good receivers come from everywhere, exceptional corners don't. We've players who can perform Bryant's roles as well if not better than he does for Dallas. We didn't with McCourty.

McCourty and it's not even close.

McCourty, is the #1 corner on the pats right now Bryant, would be the #3 WR right now and he's # are not as good as Aaron Hernandez, so pats made the right pick

On one of the previous would'a-could'a-should'a threads somebody pointed out that had the Pats drafted the players that some are now wishing the Pats had chosen, then their starting corners going into this season would have been Wheatley and Wilhite.

Still wish the Pats had drafted Dez Bryant instead?
