Fearless in playing percentages. Again, there is reason not to trust the defense. The offense had the ball for less than two minutes beginning at 6:30 in the third quarter. Any NFL defense would be exhausted.. the onside kick had a huge effect on momentum and fatigue at that point in the game. Right decision, not such a good call. Risk-reward is solid.

I know the play was designed for BJGE to go left but didnt look like if he cut to the right he would have made the yard? I watched the replay a couple times and it looked like his chances were much better if he cut quick right.

Had to be a bad read by BJGE. No way they called an off tackle play in that situation.

I would have preferred play action short pass like the TD play earlier in the game or else hand it off up the middle.

An off tackle run seems more likely to result in loss of yards IMO.

1. What was up with Felger trying to bait Curran last night on Sports Sunday? I though Curran handled himself well and it was borderline un-professional by Felger. I know, a little off topic....

2. Belichick elected to go for it on fourth and one, calling a run to the left behind a double tight end set of Alge Crumpler and Aaron Hernandez, with guard Dan Connolly lining up at fullback. Hernandez sealed the end well, but Chargers linebacker Antoine Applewhite slipped the block by Crumpler. Connolly assisted Hernandez on a double team on NT Antonio Garay instead of picking up Applewhite, who made the play on Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis in the backfield.

It was poorly executed, by either Law Firm for the mis-read, Crumpler, or Connolly. If it was executed correctly, Brady takes a knee on first and 10. I think fearlessness has nothing to do with it.

I didn't have a doubt he was gonna go for it. The play itself, eh. It wasn't pretty. I think I would have had Brady go with the quick sneak before the defense got itself set instead of handing it off. Oline got very little push on that play. But the Pats still won and coach stuck to his guns. What else is new?

IMO, those four guys needed to do thier job. They did not. As I watch the play, Hernandez was the only one who did, and he could have been called for holding. Obviously, The Hoodie felt those guys could get it done. IF Crumpler makes the block, Law Firm turns it up field outside Connolly's block for 3-4 yards. Game over.

My preference would have been to punt and give the D a shot in the long field. This is not the '09 D. I think they could have stopped them.

well i hope not... few games ago he said pats needed to win a SB to remove the taint due to spygate..out of nowhere... he is another boston writer who can ran write well but lets his personal grudges/opinion effect his columns

I feel the same way that I felt about 4th and 2 in Indy: right call, wrong play. An off-tackle run by BJGE is just about the worst possible play I can think of for that situation. At least it was inside of 2 minutes this time, though, so if it had been as close as the 4th and 2 was, it would have been booth reviewed.

Arm chair QBing for the moment: If I were running that play in Madden, just before the snap I switch the direction of the run from left to right.

Reasoning: The Chargers had their entire defense slid to the side of the 2 TEs, for obvious reasons. This meant on the other side Gronk essentially had a CB lined up over him. Had they stretched out the play, Gronk blocks the CB easily, which serves the double purpose of making a messy pile that prevents the rest of the defense from sliding down the line easily.

I have no problem with the 4th down call in general, but I would've preferred that they audibled the direction of the run away from the strength of the defense.
