Not sure if this has been discussed, but Meriweather is finally on the "I'm ok with BB tossing his butt on the street" list.

The play that did it for me was yesterday against SD, Meriweather laid a nice hit on Crayton and then got up, all pumped, and did that stupid salute thing.

Problem, Crayton held on to the ball for like a 12 yard gain and a first down, and that play did nothing to stall the momentum of the SD drive.

It was like finger nails on a chalk board for me and just one more clueless act by Meriweather.

Good luck to you bud, have fun on your next team.

Meriweather does that for a friend in the military. What a bum, eh?

Yeah, we have tons of great safeties, lets ditch this punk.

He said he did that for his best friend who joined the Army, and will do it every week for his friend. It had nothing to do with the hit or the play, just the first time he happened to be on camera.

I thought he played well. If his big (legal) hits can inspire the defense to step up, I don't think he should go anywhere.

With incisive posts like this, it's a wonder you don't post here more often.

Incidentally, his friend is Willie Cooper, the guy who got shot in the ass during the course of Meriweather's firearm incident.

Is this Mike Felger making this post? He's the one we ought to throw out of Boston.

I thought he had a decent game yesterday... didn't see him bounce off anyone

Ditto. If he keeps hitting players hard enough to make them think about where he might be on the field at any given time, that style works for me. Some of those drops yesterday may have been attributable to that.

How DARE Brandon show his Army buddy some respect!!!

He should be suspended all season for paying salute to a man who is risking his life for this country!!!:rolleyes:

I don't post more often because I have to work and can't spend a whole lot of time on here. If you look at my history, I'm not someone that bags on the team...at all.

I'm happy he's thinking of his friend, but there's a time and place. My point is, he seems completely unaware of the situation on the field. If he want to do his salute or dance or whatever after a pass defensed, or an interception, or a tackle actually holding a team from a first down. Go for it. Not after giving up a big play.

His in game awareness is awful.

I am all for dumping Merriweather, but not because he saluted, because he can't cover and is hit or miss in run support.

Unfortunately with Page and now Chung dinged up, I don't see Merriweather going anywhere.

NOTE TO BB: Please draft SS Barron of Alabama in the next draft. We need him BAD!!!!!

Actually, SS is one of the lowest priorities on the team, I'd say.

To the OP's defense, the "Mile High" salute in Denver had nothing to do with the military (it apparently started with Davis and his father but continued from there to a general gesture, not a tribute to anybody), so a salute does not necessarily imply a military tribute. The gesture makes sense with his explanation after the fact. Given BM's initial posture with the media after the game last week, one of open defiance, I would not necessarily give him points for public relations. This was certainly a nice gesture given the background.

In the draft forum, BOR did a fantastic analysis of our needs and safety is #1, based in part on contract expirations and also the one year learning curve.

Barron is a great fit, because he has spent the last three years playing in our exact defense. But he will still need a year to fully integrate.

Was Crayton Meriweather's assignment on that play?

What difference does that make. If someone missed their assignment, Meriweather should be pissed, not celebrating.

Regardless if the salute was for a friend or not, he was celebrating his hit, plain and simple. He could have saluted at any other point in the game, but choose that one.
