So much for the "Patriots can't win unless Brady carries them" mantra. What is wrong with Tom Brady?? Even before his binky Moss was traded Tom Brady has not put together a great game from beginning to end. Until yesterday the O-line has been quite good this year. Brady has been given time and has been clean at the end of most games this year and yet his passing game has been very erratic. Tom has been "off" alot this year. Throws at guys feet, throws to their wrong side, missing wide open receivers.....
Any theories as to why??

We are talking two games vs. two of the best defenses in the league. Brady couldn't put together a complete game against the Jets with Moss on the field either.

It's the hair, seriously.

Wow,

Dude was under constant pressure and the receivers could not get seperation.

To the contrary I say without Brady we probable would not have scored the points we did.

That's too simplistic an answer. How to explain the impotence in the 2nd half against the Bengals? The Jets? The Miami game was ugly for this offense, same for yesterday. Until yesterday this O-line has kept Brady upright and clean and yet he's been "off" quite a bit this year. I just worry that maybe the beating he's taken over the course of his career is starting to catch up to Tom Brady.

Statistically he is the 5th best QB in the league when you look at QB rating. You have to take into consideration the defenses the Pats have faced this season. Unlike last season, Brady has actually won a game in the 4th quarter and hasnt been making too many mistakes. While he may not look as flashy as say in '07, he is putting together a pretty solid year and really helping the team win

Even if he is playing against the best defenses, he has not shown the same accuracy he has shown in the past. Even a lot of the catches were not put in the correct spot, forcing the receivers to go down instead of continuing to run.

That being said I expect him to revert to his top qb in the league form when Welker sheds the knee brace and becomes the old Wes ( I don't buy the without Moss he won't be able to get open theory).

The team is 5-1.....Thats enough for me.

Wow indeed!! We're talking about the entire season not just yesterday. Try to follow along.
"Dude" has NOT been under constant pressure all season long (this O-line has been terrific until yesterday) and his receivers had no problems with separation in most games this year yet this QB and this offense have gone flat for long stretches. My question is what is up with Brady?

Two thoughts.

One, as others have observed, some of his "off" games have been against great D's.

Two, I think our opponents are still basically playing us to pass and daring us to run. I think Taylor's return could make a difference.

Bottom Line: I'd still take him over any other QB in the League.

This fanbase is the most spoiled in all of sports. "Adequate" QB play? Do you even know what that is? Go complain about Brady to fans of about 28 teams and they'll punch you in the face.

I hope so, but I wouldnt count on it. The guy has been out for what 4-5 weeks with turf toe? He is just too old, and injury prone. Even when he comes back he isnt really a RB that defenses fear. He will just be like another BJGE or Woodhead, except be a little bit better of a runner, but since Taylor is so old I feel they are all equal.

Also you could add that they are 5-1 with a poor defense. Finding ways to win games is a skill that doesn't show up on the stats sheets. All championship teams get a few breaks during the season. I don't care about style points, just get the W. The team is playing pretty decent complementary football, all three units picking each other up.

Brady is without a probowl LG, hall of fame receiver and is using a 5'6 running back. This offense is going to have to claw and fight for every yard. It won't be pretty but they should still end up in the top 5 for PPG.

What's wrong with Brady? LOL Until yesterday he had the highest QB rating in the league. Execution has been sporadic from the WR to date - too many easy drops and sloppy routes and failure to make the correct adjustment. Even yesterday when they all had little time courtesy of the OL Brady was glaring at them more than once, and he doesn't glare when it's on him. Given the adjustment phase the offense is going through this shouldn't be entirely unexpected. He's throwing to for all intents and purposes three rookies, a first year veteran TE, a soulmate who just got back from a 5 year hiatus and another soulmate coming off an ACL tear. Add to that his #1 RB is a hard working UDFA who struggles to block and his best option as Faulk's replacement is that amazing midget Danny kid BB snached of the scrap heap in week 2... They're a work in progress and when the OL collectively spits the bit all day it's not gonna be pretty. Still they managed to grind it out. Unlike the team that other binky went to who fell into the same old randy ratio trap multiple times last night. I'm glad we don't have the option of going there any more. A pick yesterday could have been the difference.

Occasionally you make valid points Rhody. But between the way you choose to make them and factoring in the nonsensical ones, you make it hard to take you seriously.

OK, I'll follow along. Brady has been probably the 3rd best QB in the league so far behind P. Manning and Rivers, while playing a MUCH tougher defensive schedule than those two. 4 of the Patriots' 6 games have been against top-12 defenses, compared to 1 of 6 for the Colts and 0 of 6 for the Chargers.

So the only way you can possibly call Brady's play merely "adequate" is if you're judging by his personal body of work, not by leaguewide quarterback performance.

There are no "great" defenses in the NFL. The Jets are very good, the Ravens are very good, the Steelers are very good. All are very good but none great.
The '86 Bears were a great D. The Ravens SB D was a great D.
Brady has been adequate this year and that's all.
Question is why?

Brady always plays off vs San Diego with the exception of the 2nd game of the year in 07. I don't know why we should expect differently in a game where his line is getting beaten every down, his RBs are adequate at best, and his receivers don't have the time to get open.

Brady seems to be throwing a lot of low balls at the knees or lower to his receivers. I really can't peg why. He's been good without being spectacular.

Interestingly without Moss playing the defense has lifted. Growing pains removed or a safety net removed.. take your pick.

He's been adequate and that's all in your anything but humble opinion. Ergo if you want to know why and you don't like the answers your getting here you should ask the guy in the mirror... Maybe he will tell you it's that guys faulty perception based on personal ignorance of what adequate is likely born of delusional expectations.

My buddy's cat just checked out this thread...
